[COMP] Looks like I've got a looong way to go before I look like a decent wheel. What are some great ways to improve shoulder flexibility? And should I work on thoracic spine flexibility as well?

I'm having a really hard time getting into downward dog. I think because my hamstrings are incredibly tight (my back curves even with really bent knees). Puppy pose feels so much better. Can I use puppy pose in place of downward dog?

    Wrist strengthening exercises?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:19 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I am fairly new to yoga and lately I have noticed just how weak my wrists seem to be. I have to take frequent breaks during poses to shake out my wrists or do some wrist circles before I can begin again. I was wondering if anyone had any wrist strengthening exercises they could share with me?

    Thanks!

I can't sit up straight with my legs out in front of me?!?!?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 02:53 PM PDT

Sooo I've always considered myself a pretty healthy, physically capable person... that is until yesterday. I started doing some wall stretches for legs/hips when I realized that I couldn't get my butt up against the wall. When I got up off my mat a few minutes later, I saw six divots on my mat where my bottom 3 vertebrae pressed into the floor. Now I notice that when I sit on the floor with my feet out in front of me, my hips are pointed up and my back actually curves forward to counteract that.

What can I do to straighten my back in these poses? I don't even know what to google. I'm so embarrassed that I'm 20 and can't do this supper basic thing!

Also, if there's a post where this question has already been answered, I would appreciate it if someone shared the link to that. I looked around a bit for a post with answers but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I feel like I lost my way, my motivation is gone

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 01:24 PM PDT

I was going strong for almost 100 days. But it all started coming undone when my cat went missing over 2 months ago😿, my practice got shorter and shorter to basically nonexistent now. I can feel it in my body, even my eating habits are out of the window. It literally felt like everything that could go wrong did and I've hit a serious slump. I need to find my way back but can't see to get it.

Hands at sides or in prayer during mountain

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 04:23 PM PDT

Teachers will say one or the other, but is there a guiding idea behind either one? Are they interchangeable? What if I'm doing my own sequence at home, is one more appropriate than the other in certain situations?

    Book exercises

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:24 PM PDT

I have recently begun to have the time and energy to dedicate to a consistent exercise routine, and I have noticed how much it has supported my meditation practice. I have been using the routine in Becoming the Lotus, which basically just focuses on developing hip mobility. I would like to have a more rounded routine to maintain basic physical fitness and mobility, and strengthen any deficiencies, for the purposes of supporting a meditation practice. This topic is outside of my knowledge set, so I am hoping some of you might have some suggestions. Where I am living right now it isn't possible to go to classes or a gym, and I don't want to burden myself with tools and props. Any suggestions on yoga or bodyweight exercise books that would fit my situation would be welcome. Thanks.

Cork yoga mat used dry experiences

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 01:51 PM PDT

    Hi!

I have searched and searched but didn´t find my answer.

I want to purchase a cork yoga mat. I get mixed reviews-opinions regarding whether the grip of it is good when dry. I usually practice Hatha, Yin and Pilates and I would like to try Vinyasa. Some people say the grip is great, some say you can better have wet hands.

What has been your experience so far?

And do the rubber+cork mats have a better grip than pure cork?

    Any information would be welcome!

    Help me sit cross legged

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 04:37 AM PDT

I'm a M22 and have played sport for most my life and have poorly stretched etc. I can't even sit cross legged, my knees get some pain and my feet go numb :(

I'm pretty sure it's because my muscles are very tight so I thought you guys may know which ones are most important when sitting cross legged, and hopefully help me out on my life long flexibility adventure

Looking for postures/flow for improving posture and help with neck/shoulder pains

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 01:07 PM PDT

Hello! I'm fairly new to yoga, having started practising three months ago, give or take.

I suffer from shoulder pain for five years now, and recently it also moved up to my neck. I'm pretty sure this pain comes from bad posture/body imbalance, mainly on the spine, shoulder and neck, but when I went to the doctor before this pandemic, he assured me there was nothing wrong. Still, the pain remained or even got worse since then.

I was wondering if Yoga could help me with these issues, since it's something I'm loving to learn and practise.

    Thank you!

Anyone else find it more comfortable to lie/sleep on a mat on the floor than their own “comfy” bed?

Whether if I'm on my belly or back, solid ground somehow feels better especially in a hot yoga room.

    Back pain during simple poses?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 07:57 AM PDT

Hi there! I've been doing yoga for a while, but I've only just recently become consistent with an almost daily practice. Im hoping someone can help me: find that my back starts to ache when I simply sit straight up cross-legged. I feel like I need to hollow my back to stop the pain....even in savasana, my lower back will sometimes ache. Am I doing something wrong? Or are my back muscles just weak? Ps I did have a back injury from gymnastics, but nothing horrible and it was 10 years ago.

A little over a year ago, I suffered from a double hernia I got while doing yoga. I now want to get back into it. Any suggestions for light yoga / stretching techniques?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 07:38 AM PDT

My double inguinal hernia caused me a great deal of physical dissatisfaction and depression. I have now come back from that and made a full recovery. I want to get back into yoga because I did love it when I did it. I was only doing yoga for around a month when this happened and prior to that I only weight lifted regularly. I am not a flexible person but I want to be! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
