Pain over the inside of my knee when attempting middle splits? I dont even feel a strong stretch in my upper inner thigh, just a lot of tension/pain on the inner side right above my knee.

What kind of flexibility is required to do this position? And what are some good exercises to do it ? It seems simple but i can't do it without pain :(

Numbness in arm and hand after doing wrist/bicep stretch

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 10:50 PM PDT

Hi folks! I started stretching recently with the starting to stretch routine/video recommended on this sub (vid by Manuel).

I have a ganglion cyst in my right wrist which impedes my ROM somewhat. While I was doing the wrist/bicep stretch from the video everything felt fine - no pain or major discomfort. As soon as I stopped the stretch I realised that my inner forearm, thumb, and thumb side of my index finger were all numb.

It's three days later and I'm almost back to feeling normal except for a tiny bit of numbness in my thumb.

Is this fairly common or something to be concerned about? Should I avoid this stretch in future, or just take it easy by bending my elbow more? (It's the one with hand flat against the wall, fingers pointing backwards, arm extended straight, and turning upper body slightly away from the wall.)

    Thanks for any insight/suggestions!

    Regaining flexiblity

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:16 AM PDT

I have been a gymnast basicsy my whole life until I had a hip injury last year and I was out for a long time and even more time after having surgery. Now I'm working on regaining my splits back and so far I have my side ones still but my middle split damn this is gonna take a bit of time. I've had a lot of improvement past couple months though so I'm proud of me so far.

    Split Stretching Doesn’t feel right

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 04:54 AM PDT

    Hi there

New here and would like to ask a question that has been bugging me? When I stretch my hamstrings, I.e by reaching to grab by toes you feel a deep stretch which when released feels really good, you feel the stretch, you feel it loosen. However when I do the side splits the same stretch feeling isn't there. It is very hard and tight and the more I try to go down in the splits it just feels tight and is more painful then that nice stretching feeling. Does anyone know how I can stretch my side splits so that they feel like stretching my hamstrings, which feel really nice after the stretch is released?

Instructors/professionals: how long do you hold a static stretch?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:57 AM PDT

Hi all, I recently became a certified group fitness instructor, and in training they talked about the importance of holding static stretches for 30 seconds in order to have the GTO activate and relax the muscle. With that in mind, I've seen instructors teach flexibility classes before and hold their stretches shorter than that. The most common is holding a static stretch for around 15 seconds, switching to a different stretch, and then going back to the first stretch for another 15 seconds at a later time. Is there any benefit to this versus holding a stretch for 30 consecutive seconds? Genuinely curious, as a newbie. Thanks!!

Curious what would cause locked up paraspinals in thoracolumbar spine that wont go away?

Stretching and muscle relaxants aint doing the job. Does it mean theres likely an abdominal injury of kind and the muscles are gripping to stabilize the spine during movement?

    ankle mobility on rolled ankles

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:27 AM PDT

I have questions regarding rehabbing rolled ankles and hopefully this is a somewhat relevant place to ask

I have rolled my left ankle twice in the past month, not to the point of extreme swelling or pain but it is still rather annoying. I have iced and try to keep it elevated when I can, however would working on ankle mobility on a rolled ankle be wise? I play basketball and can seem to walk and run (though not too fast) on rolled ankles. I just want a way to prevent this... any suggestions?
