Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.

Pain on outside of hips when attempting butterfly stretch or side splits

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 05:22 PM PST

Hi guys this year one of my fitness goals is to try to improve my flexibility/mobility as much as possible.

The 2 areas I would like to improve on the most would be to get my knees closer to the floor in the butterfly stretch, And to improve my side splits.

For the past 5 months I have been performing a short PNF routine for side splits twice per week and have been stretching more in general, but progress is slow and I feel like I am not making any progress on my butterfly stretch.

I get a tremendous amount of pinching/pain on the outside of my hips and as a result it is hard to even get much of a stretch in my inner thighs.

I have heard that it helps to try and "twerk" your hips but can not generate much movement that way either.

Any ideas on things that I should try or resources I should use? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know how to hold a reverse kegel without holding your breath?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 01:49 AM PST

I find it impossible to hold the stretch without holding my breath. I have been told that stretching is pointless unless you hold it for at least 30s-60s.

I find that his stretch seems to use the breathing muscles so it is very hard to hold the stretch without holding the breath. When I do breathe I seem to come out of the stretch. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks

Quads are large and inflexible, hands are weak.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 04:50 AM PST

21M, used to do quite some weightlifting and as a result my quads have become strong but inflexible. I can't really hold quad stretches well with my hands as I'm just not strong enough to give the large muscle enough pushback and end up not feeling much of a stretch. What are some great quad stretches that can help alleviate some of the stiffness given my relatively weak hands/arms?

    General Morning Stretch Routine?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 09:14 AM PST

I'm 35 and a little overweight. I'm noticing that everything is stiff. I get injured very easily, when I run I've fractured my feet, I pull muscles lifting things with ease. I'm just so tight. My hip, lower and upper back, ankles, they all ache in the mornings.

Is there a good and easy routine for stretching that I can do every morning, preferably something cold (without having to do some cardio first)

I'd love to be flexible and able to work out long term without always getting injured.
