    Lost my yoga mojo

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 06:12 AM PST

I was an avid yoga person. Practiced almost daily and have been known to randomly do a sun salutation wherever I was.

During the summer, we took some time off and went on a road trip. Ever since....I haven't been able to pick up yoga again. I've done the random session here and there, but it's not a consistent practice.

I think about it. I feel bad not doing it. My body needs it for sure.

Just can't get myself on the mat.

    How have you overcome this?

I breathed through my nose in Ashtanga tonight, for the first time since starting to practice in February. The “ocean breath” or ujjayi. It made such a difference. I feel calmer than normal.

I'm struggling with padahastasana (hands under feet forward bend pose). It feels really challenging and uncomfortable. What are some good adaptations or poses I can practice leading up to this? (pic for illustraion and to please the algorithm)

Is it normal to feel substantial pain in this area when learning the splits?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:32 PM PST

Here's a photo of the exact muscle I'm referring to https://i.gyazo.com/d70f8822f5442d2e0b0a18a799d4e2f1.jpg I don't know if pain is the right word though because it might just be the normal feeling you get when stretching this particular muscle?

So basically I sit on the floor with my back against the wall, legs out straight in front of me and then I open them as wide as I can. I force them a little further to feel the burn and then hold the position for 1 minute.

Throughout the stretch I can feel a very intense burning feeling in that muscle on the inside of the knee but when I leg go of the stretch and start to bring my legs back in boy does it hurt like hell.

It feels like someone is sticking needles in it, it's how I imagine it would feel if you got electrocuted.

Am I just over stretching it? Is it normal? Or is it just because I'm so new to stretching that my muscles are just not used to it at all?

Pain in the knee when doing pigeon pose.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 01:37 PM PST

So when I do pigeon pose I feel pain in the knee that's forward (the one that's bend). I've been doing this pose for years and never had any issues. Do you guys have any advice on what's going on and what I can do? It's one of my favorite poses and I'm afraid to do it now :'(

    Advice for a beginner

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 10:29 AM PST

Hello! I'm just seeking a little guidance in how to go about practicing yoga..

I've been doing weight/strength training for the past 3 years now, and while I love it, it's not good for me atm because I suffer from GERD and apparently weights are bad for it. I decided I wanted to stay fit/active and yoga seemed like a great fit. I'm starting with 30 days of yoga with adriene and i love it but it doesn't feel like i'm getting a great workout like i used to with weights. I'm not sure how to progress once the 30 days are up, to get a more efficient workout and gain strength over time.

For people practicing at home using youtube videos, do you watch specific videos or is it just whichever you feel like doing that day? Should I do the same video for a long period of time, say a month, and change to a different one? Are there any other plans that have good reviews?

Would really appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance!

Was feeling so good about getting back on the mat. Looking & feeling better & happier. Then I went to my annual exam & stepped on the scale. Confidence took quite a hit. Anyone else battle with their self esteem & confidence depending on that number on the scale? Kills me!

What time do start practising yoga?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 05:41 AM PST

I'm really trying hard to get back into yoga. For a few days, I've been starting a 60 minute morning session, but I find that's a bit too chaotic with work. It's not an issue for weekend though.

I'm trying to determine a suitable time to practice everyday. Lunch time is awkward because of meetings. I was thinking after work (5pm onwards) but I'm not sure.

What time do you all practice yoga? What works best for you?

I only feel the stretch on one side in seated spine twist

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 09:20 AM PST

I don't know why, but whenever I do the seated spine twist (aka Half Lord of the Fishes, aka Ardha Matsyendrasana), I only feel the stretch in my left thigh, but never in my right thigh. I'm pretty sure I'm doing it exactly the same way on both sides. Also, this has been the case for years. I've just never been able to feel the stretch on the right side. What could this mean? I'd like to be able to feel the stretch on my right side.

Is yoga with Adriene for me?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 05:11 AM PST

Just as the title says, I wouldn't say I am completely new to yoga as I spent last year intermittently practicing Baron Baptiste style yoga at a friends house who is an instructor. After being out of the game I decided to pick up a new mat and get back into it. I am pretty active, surf/snowboard, also play tennis/golf. I have noticed a big negative difference in my body from last year to this year, and I would like to change that. Currently practicing with my friend is not an option and was curious if yoga with adriene would be a good way to get back into it, still a beginner, was looking at the 30 days playlist, coming from a "power yoga" would this be a little too mild for what I'm looking for in regards to core/shoulder strengthening and flexibility? 31/M if that matters ! Thanks in advance everyone !

    Muscle cramping

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 07:36 AM PST

Hello! I'm a long time lurker but typically don't post, so hi!

I've been doing yoga for a few years now but took a break after having a baby a year and a half ago. In the past two months I've started a consistent routine and I'm considering working in to YTT.

My flexibility has increased and I try to pay mind to signs that I'm overexerting myself. Most of the time I'm fine, but in the past few weeks I've been getting AWFUL cramps in my glutes. Three legged dog, even jumping into handstands! Sometimes it's minor, but sometimes I can't even walk for a few minutes and I have to rub it to get it to ease up.

Is there any insight as to why this might be happening and what I can do to decrease those chances?

    tia, happy practicing ☺️🙏

Feets falling asleep due to yoga?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 03:26 AM PST

I'm sorry if this isn't allowed but this is starting to freak me out

I did some pregnancy yoga with my sister when I was about 16-17, my sister was the one that was pregnant I joined for the siblings bonding and every now and then my feet would go fully asleep in the "dead man" position (I know the real name, I just can't spell it) and the instructor would sometime go and rub my feed and lay a blanket on me when this happened. It went away quickly and was never that concerning

Now my partner have bought a years worth of down dog so now I do yoga maybe 3-4 times a week and my feets are constantly falling asleep. Just now I'm sitting at my work from home desk and it's so painful, it'ss like the feets gets 10000 tiny needles pricking all over. When this happens I shake the feet, I go up to walk and I massage them. It goes away quite quickly but it is starting to annoy me / freak me out

Do you guys know what's up or how I can more easily handle this sensation

I have ofcourse thought about seeking medical attention but due to CONVID-19, not hurting for long periods of time and not hindering me on my day to day life I thought I try asking you guys first

    Excess Pranic Energy

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 06:14 AM PST

Hello, If an inexperienced past practitioner of Yoga/Moderately experienced meditator unintentionally threw his balance off with kegal-type exercise, what is the best way to feel normal again? I am not talking about further Meditation or Yoga, just plain old grounding or balancing or making myself like I was beforehand. Any thoughts would be appreciated. If anyone can talk me through it would be very appreciated, I'm nervous.
