Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Enjoy!

Backbend progress. If anyone wants to provide some feedback or suggest stretches and exercises, I’d very much appreciate it.

Left hip makes a HUGE click in a specific position and I'm not sure why

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 12:54 AM PST

Background info: I'm mostly sedentary, but also do yoga, bouldering, circus etc a few times a week. My hips and shoulders are more or less hypermobile, I'm very close to putting my buttcheeks on the floor but I'm still limited in movements like the pancake splits and lotus. My left hip is more mobile than the right because of some asymmetric sitting habits that I just can't break.

Anyway, when I do certain movements my left hip makes a very large jump from one position to the next and I'm not sure if I'm hitting bone, muscle or some form of tightness. There way to do it is this:

Standing with my feet in line, left foot behind the right. I put my weight on my left leg, let my hips stick out to the left and move my hips back and forward. When my hips are a certain distance back there's some resistance and then a big jump into the next movement. It's a little uncomfortable but not painful.

I'm not complaining, just trying to understand what's going on in my body and figuring out if this is something I should avoid or work with.

    How to do the splits?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 11:58 PM PST

    Hello!

Could anyone suggest splits stretches and what to focus on to get the side splits?

I know it is important to keep hips squared, but what else?

Should I continue to stretch if it hurts?

I was wondering if I do my flexibility training after a run or after my callisthenics workout, which one sounds better
