Can people with really big and strong muscles, like advanced bodybuilders, powerlifters, and/or strongmen be really flexible and mobile?

    Warm up before stretching?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 01:52 PM PST

Hi! So I'm 16 and a dancer, and I am NOT FLEXIBLE. I haven't been my entire life, but it's something I desperately want to get better at. Every time I research tips for stretching, it says to warm up before you do so you don't hurt yourself. But they never say what warm ups?

What warm ups should I do before stretching? For how long?

(Specifically my legs and hips to get my splits!)

Trouble with standing split, the elevated leg

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:57 AM PST

I am trying to figure out where is my problem area. When I do a standing split, I can touch the floor with hands while having standing leg straight, but its very difficult to get my back leg to elevate past horizontal. It is barely horizontal to the ground and not very straight. When I am lying on my back, it is also hard to lift one leg straight-legged to vertical. I can lift it bent legged knee to chest. So it seems I am having trouble creating that front split form in my legs, with active flexibility? With front splits on the floor I am not great, but am able to get decently low to the ground (still not full split). But of course my bodyweight forces my legs to get into this position, so the legs are passively stretched against their will. Can anyone tell me what part is lacking and what I need to train to get an awesome standing split?
