Is it okay to do yoga and not have goals of headstands or splits? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:29 PM PST Obviously I know, the answer is yes. But sometimes I feel like I should have these goals that I'm practicing towards. Mostly I just do videos with Yoga with Adriene. I really really enjoy them and while I feel my body getting more supple and stronger I'm not really practicing towards any complex shapes or movements, her videos tend to be beginner friendly. Does anyone else not have goals like that? I guess I really just want to see if I'm alone or not. [link] [comments]
As a beginner, how do I know I’m doing the poses correctly? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:51 PM PST I understand that if I go to a class the teacher would help me figure out how to do the poses correctly but in the time of COVID, how can I make sure I'm doing poses correctly (at home by myself) so I don't end up hurting myself? I guess I could use a mirror or a self facing video set up to see myself doing the poses but sometimes when watching videos or looking at photo diagrams, I'm still not sure I'm doing the pose safely and correctly. Does anyone have advice on how to make sure a beginner is doing poses safely and correctly when they are by themselves? [link] [comments]

Is the surya namaskar a full body mobilizer? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 04:25 PM PST Need a short and effective mobility routine, saw this on youtube and was wondering, if you did this for a set time would it be effective for improving flexibility and mobility? [link] [comments]
How did you establish your daily yoga practice and what does it consist of? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 06:42 PM PST I've been practicing yoga for years now but I've never had a consistent practice. I usually relied on going to a few classes per week at a studio but with covid I can't even guarantee that. I'm looking for implement a consistent, well rounded yoga practice (not just asana) but I'm not really sure how to start or stay motivated/how to keep driven. For some context I'm an absolute yin-er by nature and find it hard to push myself to do more vigorous practices on my own. How did you establish a daily practice? What do you do daily and how do you keep showing up even when you get busy/don't feel like it? [link] [comments]
Feeling incredibly discouraged, SOS Posted: 10 Jan 2021 04:50 PM PST I last March I completed a full 30 day yoga corse from Yoga with Adrienne. I loved it because she offers modifications for everything, so I never felt discouraged or incapable. Her practiced never seemed impossible, challenging, but doable. I ended up coupling yoga with healthy eating and lost a bunch of weight. Exercise became easier and enjoyable. Since then, with starting new medications and struggling with quarantine, I've gained it all back and more. I recently discovered Alo Moves and decided that because I have such weak upper body strength (I am 18 and I have never been able to do a single push-up on pull-up) and incredibly tight hamstrings (I can't touch my toes at all, and I can barely touch halfway down my shins) I would try Dylan Werners total strength program, starting from beginner. I feel like a complete failure. My bones are popping and cracking, his pre-chaturanga training poses are way beyond my capabilities. I cant finish a workout without crying from frustration and discomfort. This is designed for BEGINNERS and I can't do it. I know this isn't right. Yoga is a journey and involves growth. I've struggled before but never this bad. I'm just so frustrated. It seems I can't find progress no matter how hard I try. I'm not sure what my question is. Maybe this is just a rant. Has anyone felt the same way before? How did you change this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 02:27 PM PST Wondering if anyone can help me solve this. I've been practicing regularly for about a year now and generally found I've improved my flexibility and general awareness on how my body fits together. One thing I can't work out is my left knee. When I sit cross-legged with left ankle over right all is good, the other way round less so, I don't seem to get a stretch at all in my left hip/leg but it goes straight to my knee and is moderately painful. The experience is similar with any pose that brings my left foot to my groin. Does anyone know what muscle is possibly too tight here and can recommend any poses to help loosen it? Thanks :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jan 2021 07:23 AM PST I run a couple miles each morning before my 30 minute yoga session. Are these two activities in any way counterproductive to each other? [link] [comments]

Any advice for how to deep clean my manduka pro mat in an apartment in the middle of winter? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:51 AM PST My mat's getting a bit funky and could use a good cleaning. Problem is I used to be able to take it outside and hose it off on the deck but I've moved to an apartment and no longer have access to an outdoor space or a hose to do this (plus it's janurary in the midwest, so... cold). My shower is also a tiny single person stall so it would be quite tricky to maneuver in there. I do have a washing machine in building and I'm quite tempted to just chuck my mat in there but something tells me that's probably a bad idea. Any ideas? [link] [comments]

Question: How exhaustive is the site "BookYogaTeacherTraining"? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:27 AM PST I am looking for a 200hr YTT. "BookYogaTeacherTraining" is the site that keeps popping up in my searches. Are the listings fairly exhaustive? Do the "best" programs and teachers list on there? I'm open to any alternative suggestions, please! My goal is a ~2 week full-time program in the Spring, somewhere in Latin America. [link] [comments]
Thinking of taking my first YTT and I may be seeing red flags... Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:41 AM PST Hello so as the title reads I'm thinking of taking my first training and I just feel very naive to the whole thing and I may be seeing a few red flags. I won't be saying names or the institution but I will give a bit of info on the set up. So the training itself is 'pay what you can' which is very kind and what drew me to the program because I am not in a position to be paying a full $2000 on a training right now, I saw this as a great opportunity to begin my teacher journey. The phone number came in internationally for me however the actual instructor seems to reside in California, US. Maybe that's totally normal for people to keep their intnl numbers or to have one for travel (I really don't know). But I didn't think that much of it until today when I was officially accepted into the program and I was asked to wire money to the account of the head instructor. This worried me that this could be less official than I've been lead on to believe. My boyfriend is a little concerned too. I'm concerned this is someone taking advantage of an accepting community and also concerned Im not seeing that it's a wonderful opportunity. Like I said I feel very naive to all of this and am just looking for some guidance here. [link] [comments]
What time of day do you practice yoga? Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:33 AM PST Asking as someone who runs and lifts weights in the morning on most days of the week and so I've been struggling trying to find a set time to practice yoga each day. I have INCREDIBLY tight hips, hamstrings, ankles, feet (entire lower body really) so even beginner yoga is daunting for me. [link] [comments]

beginner, I have pain on my wrist what do I do? Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:57 PM PST will the pain go away, do I have to stretch my wrists more, does anyone have recommendations? I do have carpal tunnel syndrome but lift weights just fine without pain [link] [comments]
