Ashtanga yoga: I learned the seated poses today!

I learned the seated poses today!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:28 AM PST

I've been practicing since November entirely on Zoom and my teacher invited me to learn the seated poses today. I feel really proud and wanted to share.

Ashtanga has changed my life. I'm stronger, calmer, back to being a vegetarian, and generally happier.

This is in conjunction with several other big lifestyle changes, however, yoga is a big part of it. Biggest win is that I've learned to listen to my body, my inner wisdom, and trust and love myself. 🙏🏻 ♥️

    Virtual Evening Mysore

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 11:30 AM PST

Does anyone know of a shala offering virtual evening Mysore in the United States (I'm in Central Time Zone but can be flexible)? I have a shala here that I love but I am really struggling to get up in the mornings since the pandemic has started. I used to run in the morning and get up at 4:45 two days a week to swim, but these days it's a struggle. So I thought maybe I could find folks to practice with at night rather than always practicing on my own. Thanks.

    Ashtanga style videos for runners

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:30 PM PST

    Hello yoga people,

I've been looking for some more specific routines for runners/cyclists but I find a lot of instructors just too chatty - I don't like loads of commentary whilst I'm holding a pose!

For my practice I follow Clayton Horton primary ashtanga series, and love his style of practice. With this, I'm hoping the good people of the Internet might have a suitable recommendation?

Thank you in advance! A newbie to a Reddit 🌞

    Beginner hamstring injury?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:58 AM PST

    Hi everyone!

I have done Ashtanga for 3 months and am currently up until Marichyasana C with a few extra hip openers my teacher has encouraged me to do.

The thing is I have extremely tight hamstrings, to the point where I can barely hinge on the hips when forward folding.

I have been loving the practice but since a month or so I feel pain in my right hamstring (tighter leg) everytime I forward fold when I start with the Sun Salutations.

By the time I get to the seated postures I guess my body is really warm and I barely feel any of that initial pain/discomfort from the beginning of my practice.

I wouldn´t want to stop practicing as I feel my body opening it up and mentally it is doing wonders to how I carry on with the day.

Here I have marked exactly what part of my hamstring is in pain in case anybody has any suggestions on what to do.

Thank you everyone and happy monday!
