Feels like my back won't stretch

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 12:35 AM PST

I can do arm stretches, leg stretches, chest, neck, etc. With all of them I feel that "pulling" sensation that you get with stretches. But I have never found a stretch for my back that I can feel. I've tried dozens of different "back stretches" I've found online, but none of them ever FEEL like a stretch. No pulling, no pain, nothing. Everything I've ever tried to do with my back feels exactly the same as when I'm just sitting or standing.

I also want to add, I've been struggling with back and neck pain for a long time now, it's never gotten better. Over the past few weeks, it has honestly felt like my entire lower back is one huge bone, it doesn't feel like skin or muscle. It's extremely hard and when I try to rub it, it feel just like I'm pushing on a bone.

    Wat do?

Very sore tendon(?) when stretching hamstrings.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 11:25 PM PST

Backstory: I've been trying to increase my lower body range of motion to preserve better form during deadlifts, and I've found that my posterior chain is quite inflexible to the point that I can't really reach my toes even with a curved back.

So I jumped on board the stretch train and hit an immediate roadblock. I started with straight leg PNF stretching, which my left leg had been responding well to, and I was making good flexibility gains there. However, when I try with my right leg the area around and underneath my knee feels like the leg is hyperextended, and actually gets worse if I put a slight bend in my knee. This effectively prevents me from getting to the range where the hamstring would stretch, and if I hold the position for too long the tendons behind the knee will be sore for a while afterwards.

Just for context, my overall foot and leg posture is probably worse on my right leg (somewhat pronated foot) so I wonder if it might be related to that, but I don't know enough about the interactions between muscles.

I would really appreciate it if you could fill out my survey on how dancers are perceived in society. Thank you so much for your help! How dancers are represented in society

Anyone get flexible later in life?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 05:45 PM PST

Hi all! I'm 29, I have a sports and dance background BUT I have not been practicing dance in about 9 years lol

Needless to say, I can't do the splits. I am not super flexible and anything I did have- I lost.

My question is, can you become super flexible later in life if you practice? I know that's a strange question.

I want to get better at yoga and get into aerial classes so flexibility is super important.

    Thank you

    Split stretcher

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 12:55 PM PST

Hello, for about a month and a half I've been using a split stretcher and almost every time I use the next day I feel a pain in my right knee. I've been stretching for a few months know and never had this problem. Does anyone know the issue? Btw I use a FIGROL split stretcher. Thank you

I think I can do pigeon stretch leaning back, in a chair, and standing, but never with my leg behind me. Why not?

    Afraid to stretch

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 06:32 AM PST

I was really into stretching since I wanted to finally be able to do the split. When training I tore my gluteus medius completely off (not sure how to explain in English, but the medius has 2 muscle groups, and I tore the smallest one) Sadly it can not get fixed anymore, since it's completely torn in half. I can still move, I have minimal pain and only a little strength loss, I also have a big "dent" at the place where the muscle used to be. As you can imagine, I'm scared to death to try stretching again. Even to do yoga, which I love. Anyone been in this position? How did you manage to deal. Since I basically have one less muscle in my butt, I want to preserve the muscles I have left, hehe..

    Irritated nerve by flossing/gliding?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 10:02 AM PST

Around the beginning of january I tried flossing my nerve because I had an issue with my calf which I thought could be nerve related. So I found these flossing exercises ( the one where you sit on a chair and lift your leg up whilst also tilting your had back). Did these a few sets x 12 reps. Did it again the following day. The days after I noticed my hamstring area, area right below the buttock, kind of burning constantly. Since then it has been burning on and off. Some days I'm like ''yes it's gone!'', and then the next day it suddenly returns. So I tried flossing again from time to time as I suspected it's the nerve that burns, in the hope it would go away.

Unfortunately it's still here and I don't know how to get rid of it. I think I literally caused it due to experimental flossing (flossing for no reason as I had some issues with my calf which wasn't that bad to be honest). I have never had lower back issues so I definitely don't think it's sciatica, because that burning sensation was never there before I started flossing. My last floss was like two days ago, I decided to completely stop it and see if it goes away on its own. In short, is it possible to cause nerve irritation by flossing for no reason? (without having any symptoms), as I suspect this happened to me.

Stubborn pain between rhomboid and spine, what can I do once and for all?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 05:34 AM PST

Stubborn pain between rhomboid and spine, what can I do once and for all?

I did a shoulder workout in November 2020 and I felt something snap on that exact area. I rested for a month (no gym at all, no exercise) and I was 95% back to normal so I worked out again and started lifting light weights in terms of shoulder workouts just to take precaution. Foolishly, I felt good so I went back to lifting heavy in terms of shoulder workouts again and unsurprisingly - the pain came back.

I've rested it again for 3 weeks and felt 90% better but last night when I was having sex with my girl, it came back and now it hurts like hell again 😞😞. I apologize for the TMI but I just don't want to spend thousands of dollars on doctors. Is full blown rest the cure to this nagging problem? I'm honestly petrified that I won't be able to play sports or hit the gym anymore for the rest of my life. I'd greatly appreciate a reply from you 😁 or anyone else that's experienced something similar.
