Slightly nervous about going all the way up without a wall. Fell a few times too, and this rug isn't that soft lol. Also wondering if a lack of shoulder flexibility is why I sometimes fall. Feels super close tho

Pain behind my knees after splits training

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:07 AM PDT

I have been trying to do the splits for a year now and I'm about 6 inches off the ground. But every time I try to do splits training exercise, the muscles directly behind my medial knees get soo sore and painful I feel like something is wrong. This is the first time I have gotten pain in that area. Has anyone else had pain in that area with trying to do the splits? Is there something I am doing wrong? I have been taking breaks of up to one week to let the pain calm down but the next time I stretch it is sore again in the same place! I can't advance because of this. What do I do :(

Why is it important to ease your way into a stretch slowly rather than push into it quick?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2021 12:38 PM PDT

My physio told me to think of it like blowing up a balloon slowly. Let the balloon fill up and slowly expand as you blow in steadily, slowly and gently. Rather than 1 quick blow.

How does this apply when stretching and what exactly did they mean by this? Can't go back for another while to ask her because of Covid.

How do I go from a more V type splits to a perfect 180 degree splits?

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 11:01 PM PDT

    Hi Guys!

This is my first time ever posting to reddit. I've really been working on my flexibility and currently, my splits look like in the first picture where the girl is wearing a blue shirt and her splits look more like a V. However, I don't know if you would actually classify that as the splits since it's not in a straight line. The splits I really want to achieve is at least 180 degrees and looks like the one in the second picture. My question is, am I doing the splits correctly? Do you think there is a physical limitation keeping my splits from looking like the second picture? Or do I just need to practice more? How do I get from the first picture to the second picture? Thank you so much for your help!

    Could use some encouragement!

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 06:42 PM PDT

I have been practicing flexibility for my splits (side and middle) for about 3 months now, 4 days on 1 day off. I saw huge gains from month 1 to month 2, but I just took my month 3 pics last week and I hadn't improved at all; my hips looked more out of alignment in my month 3 front splits than when compared to months 1 & 2, and my back was really hurting after stretching sessions.

After reading some of the advice on here, I decided to go back to focusing on form through conscious squaring of the hips and to add more strength-focused movements, all was hunky dory and I had a plan - except I just tried to execute my plan today and I swear that my splits have gone BACKWARDS from where I started! I am so far from where I thought I was going to be and I feel so defeated :( I thought I was 2 to 3 inches from front splits, but with corrected form it's more like 6 or 7...

Any words of encouragement and / or recommendations to keep me going and make sure what I'm practicing is actually effective?

    Suggestions for tight/painful adductor tendons?

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 10:37 PM PDT

Overall I'd say my hips are reasonably flexible — I have my front splits on both sides and am only a few inches away from the middle splits. My adductor muscles rarely hurt or feel overstretched. But the main tendon in my groin is SO tight and stiff. I'm sure it's the tendon; I can pinch it between my fingers and feel how tight it is. Whenever I do squats that tendon (JUST that tendon) is horribly sore for days afterward. I feel like it, not the muscle itself, is what's keeping me from getting my middle splits. Is there anything I can do to loosen this tendon up?

Do you lose or gain power after gaining flexibility

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 03:14 PM PDT

I understand that the new range of motion may mean that the muscle fibres are longer making you lookslimmer does that mean the muscles are more dense so I gave more potential for power or am I jumping to conclusions

    Flexibility professional/ specialist?

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 02:00 PM PDT

My hips are so incredibly inflexible, I can't sit cross legged and when I stretch my hips it's extremely painful and fragile.

I've done sport my whole life, and I don't know anyone who has hips as inflexible as mine - even people who have hardly even done any sort of physical exercise.

Is there some sort of professional I can see to help me open up my hips? I feel as if my bone structure may be slightly different to most people, as I really don't know anyone else with hips like mine.

    All help appreciated Thanks
