Is there a healthier way of breathing than diaphragmatic?

I was reading a book on pranayama and this is what the author said:

"Similarly, as some are exclusive chest-breathers others are exclusive belly-breathers and, although this gets less attention in the media, it is as much as an impediment as exclusive chest breathing. It makes the ribcage rigid and the heart and lungs torpid. It also enlarges and weakens the abdominal organs and makes one addicted and a slave to one's emotions, which are stored in the abdomen. If you are incapable of fully using your ribcage in the breathing cycle, you are severely limiting your vitality."

Before this caution, he was explaining how to breathe so that the ribcage got involved without the stomach. I don't know if he means to say that we have to include other kinds of breaths once in a while and not make anyone exclusive, or if there in fact one exclusive (one we can use all the time in our days) we can make but isn't the diaphragmatic. Thanks for any help
