Posted: 25 May 2021 07:43 AM PDT I have a simple little system that helps me meditate more productively, may come in handy for someone :) When I sit down and close my eyes, my thoughts are random and frequent. I call this the lobby. You can stay in the lobby for a shallow meditation session. Unaware of it. By noticing this place you can become more aware of when you're in it and when you've gotten deeper. And deeper can mean many things. After the lobby there are many doors. You can choose to go to the stillness door, problem solving door, breath work door etc. [link] [comments] |

My internal monologue is a fucking opera Posted: 25 May 2021 10:22 PM PDT I've been trying and failing at the practice for years. Sometimes I can string 4/5 consecutive days, then tail off, then back again and starting from square one again. BUT! I think the techniques of centering on breath or the acknowledgment of stray thoughts and trying to see them from an "outside observer" helps a lot. I've caught myself in mentally stressful/anxious situations and I trigger that observer of thought mode and take a deep breath and focus on the inhale/exhale, listen to my auditory sensory input without an imposition of thought. I don't think I'll ever be what I think a meditation practitioner is because I haven't exercised consistent discipline meaning that I'm not that serious about it. I want to be but my circumstancial situations derail me. TLDR; even if you suck at meditating, some of the tools/techniques help in day to day scenarios. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2021 12:34 AM PDT I notice that recently I get incredibly tired after sitting with difficult emotions for a while. For example, earlier this week my 5yo daughter had an epic tantrum that lasted a while. I stayed calm and present with what was going on, supporting her, allowing my own difficult reactions and emotions to just "be there". After that I was so tired that I got into bed, my wife managed my daughter's bed-time routine, and I slept from 7pm to the next morning. The same kind of thing happened last night while I was dealing with (and being present with) some bad lower back pain (it's a thing for me). Anyone else experienced this kind of thing before? How to Overcome Obstacles That Keep Us From Meditating Posted: 25 May 2021 10:46 PM PDT There are many reasons why we don't do things that we know are good for us. When I first was exposed to meditation, at about 19 years of age, I was working on my first academic degree. I had begun studying the positive effects of meditation. My exposure to meditation was very scientific, very medical. I learned how meditation was good for your heart, your stress levels, and just overall good for your health. I would describe it all in very scientific and medical descriptions exclusively. While I knew it was good for me to meditate I wasn't overly concerned with keeping my blood pressure down and such. I was a typical 19-year-old student and didn't worry about "long-term effects". Luckily, I did enjoy the benefits of meditation from the very beginning; however, I think that what I didn't realize at the time that I wasn't meditating regularly because I didn't take the time to meditate. While I enjoyed meditating I was "too busy" to take the time out regularly to practice it. I basically practiced meditating intermittently and not on a consistent basis. What changed for me was when, years ago, I started meeting people who had been meditating for a very long time. These people shared with me the positive effects of growth with meditation. They explained that meditation was a good way to grow emotionally and spiritually as well as physically. Once I understood that meditation was far more than just a good idea for "medical/physical" reasons, I realized that I had to start practicing regularly myself. Having been intrigued with "growth" since I was very young, I knew this was my path. Immediately, I got a book on meditation and began studying and practicing regularly. I started meditating every day, twice a day because growing while I'm here on this planet is very important to me and always has been. I think that one thing that can really help anyone with meditating on a regular basis is to find that "reason" you meditate. If you don't have a real drive or reason for meditating, other things become a priority before meditating. If making money, going out, socializing, working, and such all take priority in your life you will find yourself making time for these things while making it harder to find the time for meditation. If you see that meditation provides far more than just medical benefits, that it increases your happiness, your spiritual well-being and so much more, you will find that these are the real reasons to make time to meditate. I think another thing that keeps many of us from meditating is that meditation, at first, can be difficult. When we first start out it can sometimes be hard for our minds to go into stillness. It can be a challenge to sit and quiet our minds in the beginning. It takes practice to get to the point where we can sit still, not fidget and bring our minds to a peaceful stillness of meditation. I find that often, the solution to this problem is using a "Guided Meditation". You can utilize my own guided meditations online, my audio CD, or utilize several other places that offer both free or paid guided meditations. I have found that people who are beginning and use guided meditations have an easier time learning how to meditate and truly bring themselves into the quietness you need. You may also find that you prefer guided meditations or meditating with others. It's much like learning how to ride a bike; once you have training wheels you can take off easily and learn the tricks to go off by yourself eventually. That brings me to another reason why some people don't continue to meditate; some people don't like to be alone. What I mean by that is that it's not that they dislike being by themselves as much as they dislike being by their emotional selves. When you meditate you get to learn about yourself and what's inside of you. Things come up which you may have ignored emotionally for a long time. You may find there are things you need to work on emotionally; things that have been hidden in the corner of your mind and need to be brought out dusted off and healed. I highly suggest meditation as a way of finding out if there are things that you need to work out emotionally within yourself. Sometimes being faced with this can provoke a person to step away from meditation because they don't want to face these emotions, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to work through these feelings and thoughts using meditation techniques. I think you will find yourself less stressed and more relaxed once you approach these issues using meditation. If you do find that you have things come up while you're meditating, make sure that you take time to heal them. If you have wounds from the past or something that requires some healing it's important to get that healing and meditating can be a good process in helping the healing process. Many people utilize meditation in conjunction with therapy, something I encourage when you have things that need to be healed. Meditation is an excellent barometer to let you know how you're doing in your healing process because if you can be still and present with yourself then you're doing pretty well. Another reason I think people struggle with meditation is simply discipline. Many people have trouble disciplining themselves to take the time to meditate. In the same way that many people won't take the time to take care of their physical self at the gym regularly; people often won't take the time to take care of their emotional and spiritual self by taking the time to meditate. There's no question, it takes discipline to meditate. You have to set aside time each day to meditate and that's why I encourage people to have the discipline of meditating when they first get up and when they go to bed at night. An easy way to discipline yourself is to set your morning alarm 30 minutes early to meditate in the mornings and go to bed 30 minutes before your normal bedtime so you can meditate before you go to bed. It's easier to set aside that time in the beginning and end of each day, as opposed to trying to fit it in between a busy schedule. You will find that if meditation is important to you, you will set aside that time you need to practice it. It doesn't matter when it is, as long as it works for you. I suggest the morning and bedtime meditation process because this seems easiest for people to fit into their schedules. Once you start doing this regularly, you will find yourself looking forward to these 30 minute periods you have set aside just for you. I'd like to encourage you to utilize our online podcasts for meditation to help you become disciplined and take the time to meditate. With the help of our podcasts, we can help you find the wonders, the beauty, and the true bliss of meditation. [link] [comments] |

We are passing thru a bad phase Posted: 25 May 2021 07:08 AM PDT Hi, I am sorry, I was absent for many days, rather months. We have a very bad situation in India and a lot of my friends and relatives have suffered. Some of them gave up the fight, while some survived. Overall we don't know when this will pass... Meanwhile, I saw anxiety, stress and depression everywhere with job losses and an uncertain future. I am creating something which maybe most of you will find interesting. Something to do around meditation, but for a much greater benefit. I will tell you whenever I am ready. I believe many of you have your personal blog on mindfulness and meditation or maybe something like a journal. I would ask you to share your blog links on your comments so that I can read them whenever I find the time. You can also message me. Peace, love and light! [link] [comments] |
When to call it enough? [Experienced Meditators] Posted: 25 May 2021 06:05 PM PDT I have a question for those who have been practicing meditation seriously for a long time. I've been having a tough year. I've spent probably 90% of my time since Covid started completely alone. This last week I've been sitting with these feelings of loneliness and depression. Actually giving them space instead of drowning myself in video games or pizza or whatever distraction I can find. It's getting very intense. I realize it's safe to express these emotions, but I'm getting tired. Usually when I sit with an emotion like this, it passes in 15 or 20 minutes. It's been like 3 days of heavy, heavy depression and I haven't budged from sitting with it. What do I do? I am afraid I am somehow perpetuating these emotions by giving them space. At the same time, if I'm releasing something deep once and for all, I want to perservere. At what point do I return to distraction? Thank you for any advice [link] [comments] |
Resisting an angry response in public facing roles. Posted: 25 May 2021 07:01 AM PDT Working as a nurse in a healthcare system under stress. A large portion of people I come into contact with are obnoxious amd get my back up even before we start. It is difficult. I'm all for understanding people are in pain and practicing loving kindness but some are just not very nice people. I meditate, I try and not let it rile me but it is very hard. My own health suffers because of this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 May 2021 07:07 PM PDT I have notice that babies and very young children have not been effect the social norms drives away behaviors and actions that do not fit social norms. Babies for example, look at some people and cry, other they are happy and smile. I know this from experience. Before I started meditating, I would look at a baby and they would inevitably cry. After a few years of meditating, I find that babies will stare intently me and if I smile at them they will break out in a big smile. Whatever they were seeing before was not pleasing so meditating likely changed my aura. But, as the kids grow older they quickly taught that people don't have auras and you can read or hear people thoughts. Meditation can awaken the dormant capacities. But, I also view these "special" capabilities as the similar to most talents, it varies widely by person. [link] [comments] |

Need help please. I can't stop living in the past. Posted: 25 May 2021 05:13 PM PDT As the title says,. I can't stop living in the past. I meditate, read and listen to things to help expand my mind and spirituality. But it all cycles back. I end up thinking about the old days, my friends my family, and the way things used to be hanging out together. Having gatherings with many close friends. my life is good, and headed in the right direction. But I can't help but dwell on things of the past, I long for it and am saddened that it's no longer like that, and never will be. I keep trying to focus on the good, and here an now. Be in the present. I know it takes a life time for some to accomplish this. But if there are any tips or ways others focus on the here and now I would be forever grateful. I know even in the past events I long for, I still felt this way about events that happened even further back, and I always try to be appreciative of the present. But it's so hard,. Until the moment is gone, then I want it back. Makes me feel crazy sometimes. But anyways... Thanks for reading. Blessings and love to you all. [link] [comments] |
This is ruining meditation for me Posted: 25 May 2021 09:34 AM PDT It keeps getting worse as soon as I start to think I'm getting better a new thing just wills itself into my mind So I'm battling POCD and Pure O and porn addiction. I was sitting in bed this morning and I thought about how I used to watch videos and listen to podcasts while I masturbated. These videos/podcasts weren't what got me to masturbate I was rather thinking about something that I found attractive, and I would end up just thinking about that rather then the video/podcasts. But then I got worried that what if the video/podcasts contained a child or something and I went through with my thoughts even while in the presence of that? I remember me stopping what I was doing because I would tune back into the video and I found myself uncomfortable, but I feel like there were times that I went through with these circumstances, even though I can't remember them. Is this even forgivable? Am I a creep? Jesus Christ, I'm panicking right now, I just remembered that my little sister would sometimes have to walk past me to use the bathroom, cause I live in the basement and we have one next to me. And sometimes I would be in the middle of looking at porn and I would look out for when I heard her washing her hands or even listening to whatever else she was doing. Like using the bathroom, I think you know what I mean... so I could stop in time so I wouldn't get caught. Now I'm wondering if I did something fucked up or was thinking about something wrong or some shit. I know I was masturbating to porn, but I'm afraid I thought like this lurked in my mind. Like I legit just want to start harming myself again, I hate this. I hate bothering these sub reddits. But I have no one. I can't go to therapy and even if I could I'm afraid to [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 May 2021 06:14 PM PDT So anyone who reads a lot of self-improvement material or videos you come across the common advice of reframing or changing negative thoughts to positive. So they constantly to urge you tochange your self-talk etc. However mindfulness meditation or practices tell you to just watch thoughts good or bad and bring your attention back to the point of focus or present. Is there not a place for positive thinking ? Are we just supposed to let our thoughts be as they are ? If so how does a person undergo change if they don't change how they think ? Just confused because I do see the benefits of thinking positive and how it could help you overcome things or achieve certain things. Just looking for insight. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 May 2021 02:31 PM PDT Hello, I can't wrap my head around about what the books and the saints say that you are not the body, you are not the thoughts, you are not the doer and what remains cannot be known or conceptualised and you already are what you are looking for.some say meditation is required some say it's not required If there is no self in the first place and it just being memory and conditioning why do we take decisions or plan. How is that possible.Paradoxical So seeing the futility of contemplating on it there is a sense of confusion. Is it just luck or Grace that leads you to realization? Posted: 25 May 2021 01:05 PM PDT Hi everyone, I have been meditating for more than 2 years now and one of the things I still haven't managed to do is to "look for the one thats looking". I have tried different methods with some degree of success but ultimately i have not been able to make that last for longer than a fraction of a second. I have had the most success with the "headless" meditation method but it still feels a bit different. How am I supposed to feel or know when i did it correctly? any suggestions of how to improve? thanks for all your help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 May 2021 03:03 PM PDT Hi, I have started meditation 5 minutes a day for about a week. It is called Samatha where I literally focus on my breathing unguided and sitting. However, I am finding that I am beginning to get restless. I start off by sitting down into a cross legged position, hands on my lap, chin down and focus on my breathing. Is there anything else I can do to help my practice? Thanks, Sam [link] [comments] |
