Simple trick to calm down the overthinking mind in seconds! Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:50 PM PDT This works well before meditation or when your thoughts get overwhelming in the day to day life. So all you need to do is this:- "Close your eyes, focus on your eyeballs and don't let your eyes move as you focus on the eyeballs". This is it! Your thoughts will calm down in a matter of a few seconds. [link] [comments] |
Can you have an “epiphany” even when not formally meditating? Posted: 13 Jun 2021 04:56 AM PDT I just realized that sometimes I come to important realizations even if I'm not sitting down to meditate but am present in the moment. Would this still qualify or is it necessary to have realizations during practice? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Tech distractions when building a practice Posted: 13 Jun 2021 01:21 AM PDT Did anyone else find that in the beginning at least, when we're sitting with and understanding suffering, that tech is an easy distraction? In the early days I found myself reaching for my phone whenever something tough came up. After some time I brought awareness to this and cut the link. But I feel like more than ever it's become easier to bury ourselves in Netflix shows or a mindless scroll, and all it is is numbing ourselves to the reality of our internal movements... No wonder so many people feel endless neurosis- our society is built around distraction from the only thing that can provide a true sense of well-being: our own minds and hearts [link] [comments] |
involuntary swaying/rocking during meditation Posted: 13 Jun 2021 04:34 AM PDT past two days have felt strong rocking/swaying sensations while meditating. Have been using a new mantra (hare krishna) and has been powerful. anyone else experienced the swaying? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 13 Jun 2021 12:04 AM PDT Many of the advanced Meditation practices talk about "Focusing Awareness"/"Being aware of the Awareness". But after some time of practicing, it rises the question that was long hidden underneath. Where is this "Awareness" so i can focus on ? When i close my eyes, where is this "point" that i can focus that is called "Awareness" ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jun 2021 03:17 AM PDT I know there is a sub for this, but I've been practicing meditation for awhile now and learning how to process negative emotions and feel them arise. The other night, my family had a lil get together. Not going to go into crazy details. I was sitting at a table with my sister's bf (33) my friend (23) and his girl (23). Somehow the conversation got brought up about me needing to meet someone. Not from my friend and his girl but from my sister's bf. He asked my friend's girl if she had any friends she could hook me up with. Okay whatever. Big deal. Then he starts saying how I need to go out more and that I have no job so I'll have a lot of time. But he said it in like a way to get in my face and kinda embarrass me. And he just kinda kept going at it like being extra as fuck like a weirdo. Okay, cool. I felt the negative emotions arise and I wanted to tell him to get off my dick already but tbh I was high off weed and alcohol so I just felt awkward. I also wanted to see if I could play it cool, without having to embarrass my sister's bf. I'm usually a pretty blunt guy but I get kinda introverted when stoned. I managed to play it off but i looked embarrassed af and pretty sure my friend and his girl noticed cos it kinda it all awkward and quiet. They left shortly after. It doesn't sound like a big deal but it is when he brings it up all the time , not to try and help me, but to make me look like an ass. So anyway, every one left and then this fool brought it up AGAIN. So finally I was like yooo hop off my dick already about that shit and he got all quiet. Now I'm kinda thinking I should've told him some shit earlier or even not at all. I know everyone is you pushed out. And that I shouldn't take shit all personal but idk why this one is getting to me. Just kinda tired of having to fuck with people just cos they come to family tings. [link] [comments] |

I have questions and I need answers! Help!! Posted: 13 Jun 2021 06:43 AM PDT I am new to meditation, about 2 months in and there are some things that I get hung up on or I just don't understand. I want to meditate to help my mental health and better my creativity (I'm a musician in the making) A little background if it helps… born in Alabama, USA. The only experience I have of meditation is seeing it in the movies. I am now learning and practicing some techniques (noting, body scan, visualization) So here are my questions: 1) do I have to breathe through my nose, can I breathe through my mouth? 2) does my back have to be straight all the time? 3) I find it more comfortable to sit on the floor but I don't do the leg cross thing, but people recommend to sit in a chair. Does it matter that much to cross my legs? 4) I find it hard to focus on my breath but I am not really sure what to look for, is it a feeling, sensation, movement? 5) I am paying for a subscription on a popular mediation app and feel guilty I don't meditate every day. Should I feel guilty? 6) does meditation help creativity? Sorry for the long message but I hope my internet friends can help! [link] [comments] |

Is it 'spiritually lazy' to kick an abusive NPD parent out of my life? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 06:14 PM PDT My dad has NPD/narcissistic personality disorder (if you google the list of symptoms, he has Every Single One of Them). I know this disorder is rare and stems from childhood trauma, and yet –– he legitimately cannot feel empathy nor compassion for anyone, can't understand how his actions impact others emotionally, and will backstab anyone to feed his faux sense of superiority. As a teen, he kicked me when I was down and hurt me when I was at my most vulnerable Just. Because. He. Could. As I said... his brain can't do Empathy. So when you imagine a "cold, heartless" monster-like individual ( think an emotionless, sadistic, Hitler/Nazi-type) he fits the bill. People with dark triad personality disorders (psychopaths, narcissists and sociopaths) are basically predators who are blind to their own predatory ways. In my life, despite recovering from 2 personality disorders (it took 10 years and was Extremely Tough) and having just been admitted as a transfer to an ivy league school, my dad still calls me a failure. My whole life my dad has called me a failure because it feeds his NPD and fake sense of superiority. He's never given me genuine, heartfelt credit for any of my accomplishments. Despite having forgiven him 2 years ago and encouraged our family to do facetimes twice a month, I'm beginning to think I'm just torturing myself by forcing myself to see my abuser (who still calls me a failure) twice a month. I know that although the point of meditation and mindfulness is to "get along with everyone" the truth is... our relationships are two-way streets. A relationship can only be as good as the characters of those involved, and I legitimately believe it's Impossible to have a healthy relationship with someone who's abusive and has one of the dark triad personality disorders. A healthy relationship means respecting feelings and boundaries and he literally Cannot Do That. To see him twice a month just seems to perpetuate the trauma (and sometimes fills me with Rage). Truthfully, I'm not a 30+ year practiced zen master and just because a zen master can marry their rapist, does it really mean they should in the name of "peace??" Why?? Am I being lazy and taking the low-hanging fruit by kicking him out of my life and going no-contact (I'm planning forever)? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 13 Jun 2021 03:13 AM PDT I've been meditating for nearly a month but, there's a huge problem stopping me from meditating, I keep getting micropsia when I focus on my breath and when the focus gets intense I start seeing object way smaller than they are, I used to have it when I was a child but it started again due to meditation, can anyone tell me how you can stop it? Meditation bench for 6’5” male Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:08 PM PDT I've been practicing meditation again recently and have been looking for a meditation bench to make it more like I have a specific place to practice. I've read online that meditation benches can be more comfortable for people that are not flexible. The problem I'm having is that I'm 6'5" and many of the benches I've found don't claim to fit my height. I'm also a bit overweight (~270 pounds) and that concerns me about being comfortable too. Does anyone have suggestions for a meditation bench or maybe even something else that would work for me? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 11:57 PM PDT Hello! So I was listening to a 3 hour meditation for Chi Energy and I was breathing, y'know, normally through my nose out my mouth using my stomach and I am pretty new to meditation, I've only done it a few times before this one and I noticed something strange, the video said to stare at the image in the center, idk why but I did, and after gazing at it for 4-5 minutes, I saw my vision on my left eye, go dark, and a big sphere covered my eye sight, it was a bit translucent and it switched back and forth between each eye for about 2 minutes before I said "This is strange!" and came here. The transition between each eye wasn't instant, and it looked like the orb traveled between my vision left to right, and repeat. Anything helps! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 10:41 PM PDT I recently (<10Days) started doing Meditation (Tapa) .So I started small with 10 minutes each day and its been 9 days and yet I am not used to the meditative state. It feels like those 10mins are the longest 10 minutes of my life..Everythkng slows down. I get random thoughts in my mind(I don't judge if they are good or bad. Just Thoughts) and many times I get lost in the thoughts and for a short span forget that I was meditating. What should I do, should I continue doing 10min/day or should spend more time. Have you ever been a member of a 12 step group? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 05:13 PM PDT I was active in several 12 step groups for 11 years (AA, NA, MA, PIR), dropping off over the last few years. RC benzos (phenazepam) got me into the groups in the first place, and trying 4-AcO-DMT with 8 years clean helped me to deprogram from some of the 12 step mythology. I still attend meetings here and there and avoid everything except psychedelics and entactogens, but definitely have lost that magic of 12 step early recovery dogmatic thinking. I created r/ex12step as a community to discuss life after 12 step, please check it out if interested. [link] [comments] |
