Posted: 12 Jun 2021 01:30 PM PDT I don't know if anyone will read this. If you do, thank you, I needed to share this... So I've been doing yoga off and on for over a decade, I tried different classes, styles, I love it. A year ago I have been working on handstands for the first time (they intimidate me). Now I can't even do a forward bend. In the 12 months between I have ruptured my achilles tendon which forced me to stop for a couple of months and I got pregnant (planned and wanted). So once my leg got ok to exercise on, my belly was huge and I got put on a bedrest. The birth was complicated, traumatic, and rendered me unable to walk or sit for weeks. Now, 2 months post-partum, I tried my first yoga flow. Guys I cried, I can't even do a full forward bend, I can't hold a plank, I am miles away from a split... but I will be back. I am determined, looking at all the COMPS here, I will be back. Also for my daughter, I want her to see mummy fit and happy! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 02:36 PM PDT I did wheel pose with two blocks against the wall so students could lift up while reducing the wrist angle and EVERYONE was able to try or even push themselves up. It seemed to lift the mood of the class and was great to see. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 07:20 PM PDT I really need an individual to introduce me to yoga. I am in N Ft Worth Roanoke area. I'm looking for a male instructor. It can just be an individual that is into yoga and wouldn't mind introducing me to it. I would like to chat with someone. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 08:57 PM PDT I can manage to get my foot behind my head but only for a short period time and I can't let go with my hand. My goal is to to have both legs behind my head and not needing my hands to hold my legs. [link] [comments] |
Yoga studio rates up in your area? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 03:49 PM PDT The yoga studios I went to before the Pandemic are reopening, but the rates are up 30-50%. I understand they have businesses to run and bills to pay and also inflationary pressure to deal with, but 30-50% up? Are you seeing the same thing? I am in Orange County, California. Back pain during sitting poses Posted: 12 Jun 2021 02:49 PM PDT Hi! I am trying to get back into yoga (I have done it off and on over a few years, but definitely still a beginner), and I am having significant mid-back pain when doing any sitting poses. I try sitting up straight, sitting on a cushion, but it is still really painful for me to do sitting poses. Any suggestions or things that people have found to be helpful with back pain? Resources for practice with a screwy SI joint? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:35 AM PDT I've finished PT but I was in PT for multiple issues so I got about 6 sessions of SI work and 6 for other related issues. ANYWAY. My SI joint rarely is painful these days, but I want to make sure it stays that way. My main form of movement has been barre while I try to build up my strength again in my left side. I do gentle yoga 2-3 times a week but I've been avoiding vinyasa because last time I did vinyasa I was in pain for days. Any advice for being kind to my SI joint during more intense classes? Fingies & toesies make the biggest difference!!! Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:33 AM PDT I've been practicing for about 7.5 years and teaching for maybe 4.5 of those. Something that NEVER ceases to amaze me is the difference that activating allllll the way through your fingers and toes in any given posture makes. If you activate through your feet in a balancing pose, you can help steady yourself. If you activate through your hands in a warrior pose, you can feeeeeel the energy and strength of the posture and perhaps maybe find a more steady position for your shoulders. Activating all the way through your limbs can help you find your fullest expression of your posture! I just love that the littlest things can make such a difference in practice.π happy flowing [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2021 01:05 PM PDT Just got my first pair of AirPods after my wrap Around's broke and I did yoga with them today and that were constantly falling out in my standard poses (half lift, downward dog, padhustasana (sp?) anyone have tricks for using AirPods during yoga or should I just invest in a pair of cheap wrap arounds. (Yes I know it would be easier to just not use any headphones during yoga but I'm not looking for that solution. Thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
What is a good table (or alternative) to use while sitting on the floor in Padmasana? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 12:01 PM PDT Something minimalist and natural for a monitor and speakers or food. [link] [comments] |
Hi first post here. Question about getting started. Posted: 12 Jun 2021 10:46 AM PDT Hi! I'm 44 and done yoga before in classes. I actually have practiced fitness in many different forms over my lifetime. I even installed the aerial yoga equipment to a beam of my house a few years ago and practiced it! Unfortunately, I never had a deep practice. I did it every now and again, practiced mainly by myself and mainly did it as a tack on to other programs I was also doing like running or crossfit. So, I'd say I'm not unfamiliar, just still probably a novice. It's been 7yrs now since I've had any good exercise routine. Like, I couldn't run a mile now. But, I still have kept up enough low level physical activity to keep myself in general shape. All my bloodwork is still normal, weight is within an ok range, I'm still a little flexible lol. So, my main issue now is I'm not looking to return to running/crossfit/gymrat days. I want a peaceful, serene but heart kicking start to my day. Something I can practice to center my mind and that, in time, I can work up to a more intense physical effort. My instinct is to shortcut all that and start an intense PIYO program lol but...I want more of a mind/body flow and to learn to breathe and be in the moment. I did a little meditation yoga when I was in treatment a few years back and I really appreciated the way my mind felt...but it was still a little too light on the physical effort. I need something that builds to physical exertion, but that is also mindful, and peaceful. I do want to be able to do inverted poses someday...but I'm trying to have the discipline and patience to work up to that. Since the best time for me is the early AMs, I know the most practical method to get started (that I can stick with) is at home, and maybe try to find a studio close to home to go to after work when the habit of practice is already embedded. It's just that I'm not willing to sacrifice time with my daughter in the afternoons when she gets off school, but it might be something she'd be interested in doing with me in the future. TL;DR - what's a good way to get started at yoga at home, in the early AM? I'm looking for meditative yoga that can also build to more physical exertion. Can you recommend programming or app based? I've searched myself and tried a few out but I so far don't think any I've tried are that good. YouTube non subscription videos are what I tried first. [link] [comments] |

How to deal with not being able to breathe properly when sat down? Posted: 12 Jun 2021 09:22 AM PDT I think this is a posture/airway issue, here's why : I am not able to take deep enough breaths when sat up straight. For reference I am overweight,, with fat mainly in the belly area. Sometimes I can't take a deep enough breath when sitting upright but when I lean forward I can take a deeper breath. What should I do about it? [link] [comments] |
Tight kneepit tendon on one side. Posted: 12 Jun 2021 07:56 AM PDT Hey so I've been doing daily stretches for about two weeks now, and on my non dominant side aka the left side. Stretching the tendon of my kneepit hurts way more while at the same time feels more satisfying. The stretched feeling also lasts way longer after I'm done with the stretches on that side. It's not just that I'm doing intenser stretches or anything on that side, it is a very different feeling and feels tighter. I thought this would stop after I kept doing stretches for a while but it's still there. Is this something to be concerned about? [link] [comments] |
