Hey all, just discovered this forum..I wanted to know if anyone had come across trauma informed studios, communities or teachers within the traditional Mysore practise? Or had any relatable experience or advice?

I have a complicated background and find my asana practise an essential support to my continued recovery. I sincerely want to continue with this method, however at this present time I am finding myself re-experiencing some very negative thoughts, feelings and emotions. I have been practising in a public shala and it has been fed back to me that energetically my emotions are impacting both the teacher and other students. This felt very distressing but I do understand the comment and it was made as sensitively as it could be.

I explained to the teacher that I have some difficulties with self regulating and physical touch, but can see that is quite a lot to handle if you don't have the right training. And of course I am one of many students in the room!

I feel a lot of shame that this is the case. It would be nice to understand if there's a way I can make this work in community without impacting others negatively. A lifetime of home practise feels impossible!

Just to also note I do have a seated practise and weekly therapy sessions which also help.

Do the men in your shala also mansplain when adjusted?

I've witnessed this situation so many times: Female instructor. Male practitioner. The yogi is doing his asanas and corrected by the teacher. Instead of just being grateful he starts a conversation and keeps explaining shit to her - who's literally the advanced yogini lol - and takes up her time while women practice next to him and get less adjustments/when adjusted, just say "thank you" and that's it. I feel that men have to justify when they're not that flexible. It's something that makes me roll my eyes regularly. Like we get it chris, you're usually very sporty but not that flexible cause you played football all your life.

Has anyone else experienced this - Men taking up space in the shala?
