    Help with anger.

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 03:46 PM PDT

Today was one of the first days that I was able to do a task, have everything go wrong, and still was able to smile and say, "little rascal" instead of swearing up a storm and yelling.

In 90 degree heat, having no lunch on board at 3pm. I giggled when what I was working on didn't go my way.

It works boys. Just keep at it.

I feel like meditation is coming to me too easily. Am I approaching it wrong?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 09:26 PM PDT

I have been fairly in tune with my body and am a pretty mindful person but have never tried "meditation" until tonight. I also would like to say that since my first psychedelic trip almost a year ago I have been even more aware of how I feel and in the moment. To the point though, tonight I tried meditating through a body scan and breathing and went for a few minutes pretty easily in each. It did end but it felt very natural and not difficult to hop right back in when I lost track. Do you think my past mindfulness helped me here or I should be approaching this in a different way? Any comments welcome!

    I’m a beginner and I need help

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:18 AM PDT

Just a little insight, I'm an empath and I've always sort've known it but never knew it was a "real thing" I just assumed I was much more sensitive than others around me… but since learning about it and learning more about myself, I've been on a journey to spirituality. What I mean by this is I've started to change my thought process, I've started to look at the world differently and I've started to pay more attention to my mental health instead of neglecting it as I would normally do. I'm here because I've been trying to get in touch with my higher self, learn to manifest and communicate with my spirit guides, amongst a number of other things. I've made progress but not much. I feel as though I take 2 steps forward and 10 back.. I know it all starts with meditation but I can't help but to feel like I'm doing it wrong? Any tips on meditating would be very helpful! What are some things you do before and/or after meditating? Have you noticed a difference in your life?

I feel like Im gaining more control everyday

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 01:31 PM PDT

I feel like I get more patient because of meditation too, therefore i can kind of be patient with my anxiety attacks and not be so anxious about my anxiety to go away when I feel it coming up to think in my mind, "oh my gosh I'm so ready for this to be over with" when it starts up. I also notice when i start to anxious think and will try and be in the present by focusing on my breath. I still have horrible anxiety but I'm starting to notice that I'm becoming more patient as I practice everyday.

    Scared when meditating?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:09 PM PDT

I'm a beginner in meditation, I feel terrified when I close my eyes by myself and am sitting in my room alone. I feel like there is someone watching me and when I open my eyes it's going to stare at me. I'm not sure how to explain it, but has anyone ever experienced something like this?

    Accountability partner?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:04 AM PDT

Anyone interested in becoming my accountability partner? I've just bought the book "The mind illuminated" and I'm motivated to start my meditation journey once again (I've been doing it on and off for a while). It would make me really happy to find someone who would be motivated as well so that we could both hold each other accountable :)

    DM me!

Thanks and have a good day, Tim

How would you explain meditation to someone who's completely new to it?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 12:46 AM PDT

I have a lot of non-meditator friends who I think could really use it, but meditation seems like such an abstract and multi-categorical thing. How could I summarize it in an elevator-pitch-type-way to explain it to my friends?

    Help with a mindfulness experience.

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 11:49 PM PDT

    Hi!

So it's happened a few times now, I'll be on my way to sleep, or will be asleep.

Then I'll wake up with this intense feeling of alertness (non-anxiety) and happiness.

There's no thoughts, I just feel very aware of everything. It's wonderful.

It only lasts a about 5 minutes then goes again. It's completely different to waking up from anxiety/depression.

Has anyone experienced this/know what's happening?

    Thanks!

Intermediate meditation: where now ? (too many options)

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:24 PM PDT

I have been practing meditation for some time. My style is to count breath from 1 to 10 on loop. I learned this from a zen yt channel. Though I have come to realise since then there are many other forms of meditation, soo different and specific guided kind types and so many gurus.

I understand bascially there is more than one way but which ones are legit ?. I choose zen before cause I thoughts that like more home or birth to meditation. but now I need geniue suggestion and recommendation to move forward in this.

I am trying to lower my mindless 'maladaptive daydreaming' and my train of thoughts dance 'Mindfullness' has not been the most helpful cause my mind kinda obsesses over that too.

I have heard that when meditating you should not think of it like going into a busy street and stopping the cars, but instead being at the side of the road and observing them pass by. But how do you do that and how does it feel?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:06 AM PDT

The analogy between the thoughts and cars makes sense theoretically, but I fail to put any practical feeling to it.

When I meditate, I try to imagine that I'm just observing my thoughts, instead of trying to stop them.

But I feel that the act of observing all of the thoughts is already creating a wandering mind for me?

Am I going about this wrong, or does anybody have any explanations about how the experience feels to you?

Tips for a beginner trying to get into medication

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 09:44 PM PDT

Hello! I'm trying to get into medication for the sake of mental clarity, stress relief, and productivity. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or methods of meditation for a beginner like me. How long should I be meditating? In chunks or in one big block of time? Silence or white noise or nature sounds? etc. Thank you!!

Could I be wasting my time with meditating "wrong"?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 02:28 PM PDT

I know the idea of doing it wrong, or expecting results by meditating in the best way is against the entire premise of meditation. But I do wonder if I've got the right idea here.

I saw comment from an old thread here that said it's possible that without some kind of guidance from a teacher, it's possible to be wasting your time with meditation, I guess because of doing it "wrong" so to speak or at least not optimally.

Currently I do mostly focused attention mindfulness meditation with the breath. I generally set a timer between 10-15 minutes, do a quick body scan and be aware of sounds, followed by breathing meditation until the timer runs out. Is that right?

More recently I've started doing an "open awareness" meditation separately to breathing meditation which I'm very unsure if I'm doing correctly. I just try to be aware of anything that comes to my awareness including sensations, sounds, thoughts and emotions, and also be aware of my awareness as it moves (confusing). This one is a bit harder because there is no specific focus, and it's hard to not try to direct your attention anywhere. Sometimes I worry, because I want to make sure that I'm not just sitting there with my eyes closed for 10 minutes! which is what it kinda feels like sometimes

I have no way of getting an actual in person so am not sure what else to do but ask here? Any guidance or some really good guided meditation? I really liked Headspace but can't afford the sub cost: /

Does the experience of meditation change as you age?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 08:19 PM PDT

Let me preface this by saying, I do not and never had any particular skill at meditation.

I used to meditate some, almost 15 years ago. And I'm trying to develop the habit again. But something is qualitatively different enough for me to have saught out this sub to ask the question: Does your experience of meditation change over time?

Fifteen years ago, when I meditated, my thoughts were so loud... and verbal. I remember thinking and hearing thought cut through silence with incredible clarity. Now, I feel that my thoughts are largely non-verbal. Like, the shadow of a verbal thought before it's been packed in grammar and the other ornate trappings of language.

I now wonder whether this change that I perceive is something that happens to "all of us" or whether this is just a change in my own cognition.

    Should I take a break?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 03:13 PM PDT

I've noticed since I've been able to mentally endure a mediation session my left Temple has pressure and a feeling of cool breeze to it, I don't want to over do it or hurt myself in anyway should I take a break? Is this something to heed?

My sessions are usually from 10-30 mins in a sitting up straight feet connected position any advice would be great!

    Meditation cushions/pillows

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:49 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a comfortable, yet supportive cushion or pillow they use for sitting? Mine works, however I'm looking to extend my length of stay in my practice and I'm looking something a bit nicer and supportive of my back and butt.

    Thanks,

    Why do we get tired?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 08:10 AM PDT

We get tired not because we do too much, but because we spend a lot of energy thinking about whether it's worth doing. So how do we stop it?

Yes, that's right, STOP .... And start acting from the present moment. And as a consequence, you'll get that coveted Joy.

    visualization troubles

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 09:18 PM PDT

Hello! I have been wanting to get into meditating but I have a very hard time with visualizations. When I do guided meditations it is so hard for me to visualize the things they are saying which makes it hard for me to continue the meditation. If anyone has any tips on how to practice it, I would really appreciate it !

To distinguish an in-breath from an out-breath?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 09:04 PM PDT

I have trouble distinguishing the in-breath from the out-breath during meditation, or at least knowing that I am. Whether I'm focusing on the sensations felt in my nose or in my abdomen, it all just feels like random events as opposed to specific acts. It's like I go numb.

I've tried tricks like noting (in, out...) or taking big deep breaths to highlight the way both types of breath relate before letting my breathing go back to its natural rhythm, but these ware off after they become habitual.

Am I looking at it wrong? Should I silently understand it as air travelling back and forth instead of as specific nouns? Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a kind of meditation that allows you to not feel any emotion at all?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:38 AM PDT

Title says it all, I guess? Due to me being disorganized, I've only done simple searches on meditation, and they're about being in the present.

It's just, I AM in the present when I allow myself to feel my emotions. When I feel my emotions (and this is what is wrong with me), I feel like I'm not going to heaven lol. The emotions I feel are too extreme, for large and small things, Nevermind the details. I'm pretty sure my spiral can be stopped if I can just meditate away the emotions that, while I think is helpful to be a good human being, doesn't really help me in the end.

My post is vague, lol. Simpler version on my issue.

Feels emotions? —> Becomes trash Doesn't feel emotions —> can get his life together

Deep breathing could be meditation, but it doesn't work for me ehehe. I need other tips, and maybe a whole school of thought, aside from being in the present.

Thank you for reading! Any response is appreciated. Have a good day!
