What's your opinion on Zoom yoga classes that gained popularity over the last year? Posted: 11 Aug 2021 08:14 AM PDT I attend one several times a week. It's at a fraction of the cost compared to a yoga studio, since the teacher is in India. Initially I thought the teacher wouldn't be able to correct me as much as a yoga teacher in person but the attention and corrections I received are the same as one attendee in a room full of people in person or on Zoom. IMO, unless you are in a 1:1 session with a teacher you won't have their full attention anyway. [link] [comments] |
Tips on how to get into the habit of daily yoga? <3 Posted: 11 Aug 2021 07:56 AM PDT Hey! It's been a goal of mine to do daily yoga. Honestly, I am as bad as it gets when it comes to doing yoga at home - I really prefer to go to a studio. The studio I currently go to mostly offers hot yoga. And sometimes I feel like just the heat can be as exhausting as the yoga! Does anyone go to a studio every day? How do you like it? Do you feel like the time really cuts until your day? Do you do yoga daily in addition to being athletic? (Sports or gym goer). Do you do your daily practice in the morning, daytime or evening? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 Aug 2021 08:53 AM PDT I have been told that when your hands are on the mat most of your weight should be on kind of the space between your first finger and thumb with your hands flat as opposed to on the 'meat' of your hands. It might just be my age but getting this down is proving to be really painful and a long process. Any tips on how I can get my hands a little flatter and shifted over? [link] [comments] |
Cheapest EU (~200hr) yoga courses Posted: 11 Aug 2021 12:38 PM PDT Can not afford >$2k. Able to live anywhere in Europe due to (living costs covering) remote work. I tried to research more into Portugal but only found expensive ones. Would appreciate any pointers and shared experiences! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2021 05:33 AM PDT I found a great explanation by a Sanskrit scholar about the pronunciation of yoga. From which I learned that it is pronounced as -
(I do not know how to write the pronunciation notations for English speakers, so if anyone knows that please tell and I'll add it above.) Also one simple way to determine the correct Sanskrit pronunciation is to simply say the word yoga is reverse continuously. Like, गयोगयोगयो… (gayogayogayo…). And then listen to how the "योग (yoga)" part sounds. Video source. No English subs unfortunately. Watch it from 16:44 for the part where the reverse pronunciation is explained. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:54 PM PDT For teachers, how much do you change up your classes and music (if you play it)? I'm starting teaching again in September and I'm often nervous that people will be bored with my classes if they're too similar. I have the same classes every week and I try to change it up but I find certain sequences and things I say seem repetitive. For those who go to classes, do you notice repetitive things like that? Thanks folks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2021 09:20 AM PDT I've had 5 surgeries on my left knee. I cannot sit on my knees at all. I don't have much stability in my left knee. I cannot over work my knee. I've always wanted to try yoga, it appeals to me with all its aspects. What kept me from trying it is me not being able to fully follow the online lessons because my knee does not allow it. I mentioned online lessons, as I do not want to join a class. I previously went to pilates and aerobics classes and did not like having to stop or improvise when there were exercises being done that I could not follow. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Thank you all so much. [link] [comments] |
