- The trick is to become sensitive to what consciousness is like the instant you try to turn it upon itself. In that first instant, there’s a gap between thoughts that can grow wider and become more salient. The more it opens, the more you can notice the character of consciousness prior to thought.
- Remember, we're not trying to lose our inner narrator. Just to be aware of it. If possible, aware of it as a only a bundle of thoughts, rather than a self.

365 Days - Meditation saved my life Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:48 AM PDT Last year I came across the hardest year of my life. I was diagnosed with Pure-O and Panic Attacks. Which eventually made me go into a major depressive state. After some research I came across mindfulness meditation and decided to buy "Mindfulness In Plain English" together with "The Power of Now". That was when I made myself a promise to meditate every morning and every night and here I am after a year of starting and ending my days with meditation. When people talk about how meditation save their lives, please believe them. I am proof, so keep at it! Won't be a magic bullet but it'll be one of the best personal investments you do in your lifetime. It has give me the space I needed between thoughts and I can say I haven't had a panic attack for the last 4 months. Best vibes to you all and may the universe bring you peace and constant mindfulness. P.S. Sorry for my spelling, English is my second language. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 08:15 PM PDT Hi there. I have a lot of resentment in my relationship right now that I want to let go of. It's ruining me honestly. I would like to try meditation for it, but I'm not sure where to start. Any advice? Sorry if this is way too broad, let me know if I need to provide any more details [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 09:24 PM PDT Hello! I am trying to find a good morning routine. I usually make my bed, do push ups, meditate for 5 minutes then get ready and go to work. I feel like my meditation isn't improving. Is there something I can add to my routine to enhance or improve my meditation? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

are there any death reminder meditations hiding in the calm app under an ambiguous title? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 08:21 PM PDT i woke up from a dream today, part of which was about recalling a meditation i had learned about that was "like metta meditation, but for death", presumably where you begin death reminders for yourself, then your loved ones, then a neutral person, then a difficult person, then all beings, then perhaps adding on the entire universe. i woke up and realized i'd never actually heard of this before, and made it up in my dream (along with an upbeat pop country/rock song called "we're all gonna die" lol). but it made me want to meditate on death at least as well as other badness i've been using the calm app and it's all right so far, but i don't see any death meditations. i guess maybe that's not "calm" lol. are there any hiding under vague titles?' if not, i think i'm gonna modify my metta meditation to include a round of reminding myself of the aging, sickness, death, suffering, and potential for poverty for all those i'm about to share lovingkindness with. Posted: 29 Jun 2020 08:16 PM PDT Hello, so I have been mediating for 3–5 days now, but I just have been taking naps after it. I also can only meditate for 5-10 minutes anything longer then that I can hold my body in the same spot. I have an urge to move it. What's a good technique to learn to keep mediating longer and not fall asleep? Thank you in advance. 🙏🏼 [link] [comments] |
Meditation sessions over and hour each. Posted: 29 Jun 2020 08:33 PM PDT I meditate for a lil over an hour a day. But that's total. So in the morning I'll do 30 minutes. Afternoon about 15-20. And evening another 30. I've read that once you're able to get to 1 hour each meditation session then that's when the magic really starts to happen. What kind of magic? Is it easier to manifest desires since you're no longer living in the past? I've also noticed that during a few of my meditation sessions I am able to recognize and turn off my default setting(?) I forget what it's called but I guess I'm just more present and able to recognize reality for what it is. Very similar to how acid and shrooms make you feel. [link] [comments] |
Meditation in pool, one of the best Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:24 AM PDT I have done this for years and it is the most relaxing thing ever. However I started meditating few months ago and I just realised that I ve been practicing meditation in the water for years. It might need some practicing and it does not hurt if you are confident in water (do not mind water getting in ears..etc). When you do it water blocks out most of the noises, you ll hear your breathing like it is amplified . You can also concentrate on how soothing it feels when water touches your skin. Basically you need to learn how to float on your back without putting in much effort so you can concentrate on your breathing . You have to tilt your head back until ears and eyes are under water , only nose and mouth is above it so you can breath. There is a trick with breathing, breathing in causes your body to rise a bit, and opposite happens when breathing out. If you empty your lungs completely your nose will get under water and its is not a good feeling. Have fun, feel free to ask if something is not clear. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:38 AM PDT Could a human learn meditation before even the learning of a language? It seems to me that meditation would be more accessible even at such early stages. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:25 PM PDT It's bothersome when people can't enjoy life for what it is. I can only name a handful of people who are fully content with the present moment at all times and aren't chasing to escape 'boredom'. Boredom isn't even a feeling to me anymore. I can stare at a wall for a week straight and come out of it not feeling bored. Learn to love everything about life and all will be well. People these days... [link] [comments] |
Does Samatha/Mindfulness dull your mind? Does Mantra meditation keep it agile? Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:31 AM PDT I've practiced different types of meditation over the years and stopped because I found they were making me mentally slower and more passive. I recently started again with pure mindfulness of breath, I noticed a positive impact in the first week, however now I again start to feel its dulling my mind. Even when I am focused and feel good during a sit, I feel duller and more passive afterwards. Its hard not to notice when you listen to various meditation teachers that most of them have this slowness and passivity both to their speech and behaviour. I guess most of them are fine with being this way, but its not a personality type I wish to emulate, I'm slow enough as it is. This seems to stand in contrast to people who practice Mantra meditation. People like David Lynch and Jerry Seinfeld have practiced this type of meditation for 40-50 years at this point, and retain very swift, agile and creative minds. Is this due to a differential effect of mantra meditation on the mind vs samatha/mindfulness? Judging by some accounts here on reddit from people who switched from mindfulness to mantra meditation, their experience was that mantra meditation actually speeded up the flow of thoughts (yet also made them more accepting of it). Subconscious Mind and Dreaming? Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:28 AM PDT |
Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:11 AM PDT I just made the step from meditation with guidance to free meditation for 20 min. I start with focusing on my breath for some time and after it I want to do a bodyscan. I have a hard time doing a bodyscan, because it's like I can't feel a lot in my body. During the rest of the session my thoughts are all over the place, but I'm become aware of it faster and can observe my thoughts better (instead of being guided by my thoughts). Any tips/suggestions to improve free meditation and the body scan? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:10 AM PDT Hello. So I am having problems letting my feelings in, what it means to accept them and how to let them impact me / not go into an action. If that makes any sense? Also, when I try to meditate... I think my brain wanders? Am I supposed to let it? Last thing, any book recommendations or types of mediation to look up? I am trying to be at peace with myself and accepting of my surroundings and people. I think inner peace will bring some happiness . Thank you all [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:24 PM PDT I'll try to make this story short. So, I've been practicing meditation for some time now, and I have come to realization that the bigger the ego is, the harder the entrance to that peaceful state of mind in meditation is. In meantime I have became the public figure in my country, I started doing youtube and that blew up after some time and literally I get thousands of likes and views on my videos and people actually love me. Which is really weird tbh The problem is that in any state of my life I didn't have this much attention towards me, and that shit made my ego MASSIVE. I think that I managed to realize that I have a massive problem with ego just because I was meditating before and that helped me to see the patterns in my behavior which are controlled by the ego. And as my ego was growing more and more, the harder it was to meditate and get into THAT state of mind. It's actually funny how ego controls you, and at some point you don't even realize it. Now I'm working towards fixing that problem. One love! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 11:32 PM PDT Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the vibe of this subreddit. But, from what I saw in the recent posts, I think you folks might be able to help me out with something. I recently found myself to be somewhat depressed, which is abnormal for me because I generally linger around content-excited. I reflected long and hard about what might be the root of my slump, but to no avail. Last weekend, my two roommates left for the weekend, leaving me to my own devices. As soon as I woke up in my empty house, I found myself overcome with anxiety. My mind was racing. I didn't know what to do, but I felt like I needed to "DO" something. My mind kept turning to TV, but I soon realized it was a coping mechanism to fill the void that I was feeling. I recognized this and denied the urges. After a lot of deep thought, I realized that I've forgotten how to be alone. I'm always accompanied by my roommates, family, TV, or my phone, leaving me with few moments in a day that I'm alone. I need to reset, and lose all of the crutches that I've picked up. This weekend is conveniently a 3 day weekend, so I thought I should take the opportunity to self-isolate, and let my mind heal. I want to go camping out in the desert somewhere, and try to find myself again, but I would like some advice. Does anyone know of a good desert spot that is open to boondocking, and that people don't go? I first thought of J tree, but it might be busy over the holiday weekend. I live in the CA Bay Area, so I'm open to almost anything in California or western NV, as long as it permits me to be as alone as possible. Also, If anyone has advice for dealing with my current state of mind, I'd appreciate that too. [link] [comments] |
Do you notice any difference meditating for more than 2 hours a day? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 07:39 PM PDT Having more free time (thanks to the COVID situation), I started a daily practice of meditating 3 hours a day. Prior to this I'd average about 1.5 hours to 2 hours a day. When I switched my daily practice from 30 mins to 1 hour daily, then from 1 hour to 2 hours I noticed a shift in how the practice was positively effecting my life. However, going from 2 hours to 3 hours, I haven't really noticed any real difference. If anything my mind gets a bit restless from the extra hour of sitting a day. Is there a "law of diminishing returns" in terms of experiencing the benefits of meditation or do I need to change something (i.e meditate longer, or have more frequent sessions, etc.) [link] [comments] |
Is it disrespectful to wear mala beads purely for fashion and not for meditation? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 11:20 PM PDT |
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 11:15 PM PDT Hey y'all :) I'm really interested in starting meditation! I've never done it before and I was hoping I could get some pointers and tips. Also, I'm sure many people have asked this before, but what do you actually think about while meditating? Do you focus on one particular thing, think about nothing, or just let your thoughts wander? Thanks ;) [link] [comments] |
