Any former bodybuilders/gym bros here? Posted: 14 Aug 2020 04:00 AM PDT Just wanna know your guys' stories or experiences with yoga. I switched from chasing a ripped body with muscles to yoga a few weeks ago. I now feel so much more longer and limber and just feel 10 times better in my body in general. I also don't really care about my body image anymore whereas I feel like the bodybuilding community brings on body dysmorphia in way more people than you'd realize. It's only when your out of it you realize how insignificant having a 6 pack over a 4 pack is to how people treat you lol. Overall im absolutely loving yoga. It is very challenging which I didn't realize before. I thought if was a very soft sport but I tell you, i respect it now. I love waking up in the mornings and springing out of my bed with no pain. I digest food a lot better aswell. My favorite part about yoga so far has been the community aspect. It's a lot more inclusive and together than the bodybuilding community (in my experience anyways). Shoutout to you guys 🙏 [link] [comments]

Is it okay to rely on quad flexibility in King Pigeon? Posted: 14 Aug 2020 04:16 PM PDT I'm almost touching my foot to my head in king pigeon! But I feel like it's because my quads are naturally pretty flexible compared to my back. I do practice ONLY back flexibility in my routine so I have made noticeable progress when it comes to my back, but I still feel like it's due to my quads that I'm progressing in the pose because they bend so easily! Is this okay? [link] [comments]

| Posted: 14 Aug 2020 06:53 AM PDT I'm getting back into yoga after a break of about 2 years, having done pregnancy yoga for about a year before that. I've noticed that any time I am in a pose with my heart above my head – down dog, forward bends, even child's pose eventually – I get a headache. It's not immediate the first time I do any of these poses, but on say the second or third time round it starts becoming a problem. As soon as I bring my head level with my heart – box, cat, cow, etc – or above it, the pain is gone. I know this isn't uncommon but my question is will it eventually go away the more practice I do? | Book recommendation for Army Basic training Posted: 14 Aug 2020 03:26 PM PDT Hi, I'm shipping off at the end of August for basic training and I can bring a bible with me. As I understood, there are many books on Buddhism/8 limbs of yoga that I can claim as a bible. Do you guys have any recommendations that include some sutras, asanas (ideally ashtanga), and other limbs of yoga? There are so many different publications and I don't have time to read through all of them. Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
Beginner at yoga, but pain in the back of my left thigh Posted: 14 Aug 2020 02:29 PM PDT So, I've gotten started with Yoga with Adriene's 30 day challenge. I've done yoga for 9 days straight, but I took a break this morning because I was packing for a camping trip. Why does the back of my left thigh hurt so bad? I tried using a roller, but it seems to be pretty deep in the muscle that I couldn't roll it out. Is this normal? Should I try yoga later this afternoon or take a break? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Aug 2020 10:23 AM PDT I've got a manduka pro, and I want to set it in the sun and do the salt break in to help with some slipping I've been having. Problem is they're calling for temps ~115F (46C) for the next week and at least over 110 for the next two weeks. Would that be too hot for the mat? I don't want it to melt or warp at all [link] [comments]
I am totally lost in my search for a new exercise mat, please help. Posted: 14 Aug 2020 06:13 AM PDT I have been alternating between yoga workouts and YouTube strength workouts (Chloe Ting). My old yoga mat that I had bought from a studio years ago just couldn't keep up and I had little bits breaking off the surface so I threw that out. I just got the first mat I saw after that as I didn't want to interrupt my work out routine but I hate it - I get pretty sweaty and it just sits on the mat making anything requiring me to use pressure to stay in place (planks/t push ups/ etc) very difficult but my main hate is that when doing things like planks or downward dog the mat stretches back, lengthening a bit so my feet slip further and further back as the end of the mat stretches back. This means I have to repeatedly break the pose to readjust my feet and I am finding this very frustrating. So my main focus is a mat that won't stretch like this but while many mats say non slip I am not sure if that covers this issue. I don't want to spend an insane amount but as I have been working out most days and kept it up for at least a few months I am happy to spend more to get good quality. [link] [comments]
Do you need to have your soles upwards when doing a lotus position? Posted: 14 Aug 2020 11:38 AM PDT Hello, so I'm a lay practisioner... I've been stretching a lot 3-4 times a week for quite some time now because it helped me in my job to recuperate physically. Now I am almost able to get my feet (shins and heels) in the right position on top of eachother but I'm not too sure about the bottoms of my feet (which when I look at pictures always seem to point upwards) I don't practise yoga but I'd like to be able to do certain things which I hear are good for the body such as the lotus - just for me. But can anyone help me plz and give their opinion are the soles pointing upwards a mandatory or just a natural way the human body flexes best, in the lotus position? [link] [comments]
Looking for online “beginner” classes...with really specific needs Posted: 14 Aug 2020 06:25 AM PDT Hi all, I am looking for beginner online classes, Hatha, iyengar or something without a fast sequence of poses, with an emphasis on warm ups and modifications . A ton of the classes I have tried say "feel free to modify!" But never tell you what an acceptable modification is which I find extremely difficult. I have multiple years of yoga experience all at what I'd call the beginner level so I'm okay with a little more advanced poses etc I just don't want to necessarily be asked or expected to do headstands! Free or paid are welcome. Quieter classes (little or no background music) would be wonderful. [link] [comments]
Are my complementary exercises an overkill? Posted: 14 Aug 2020 04:39 AM PDT I have been practicing Ashtanga primary series for quite a while and struggled with many poses. To overcome those struggles, I started doing complementary exercises. I have been wondering lately if those exercises could be skipped, considering how they might overlap with what Ashtanga Yoga provides me already. I would be helpful if someone with some insight about this could lend me a hand. Thank you in before hand! My complementary exercises, that I do almost every day before my main practice, are: Chaturanga push ups (Strength + Form) Pull ups (Strength) Squats (Like the one in Sun Salutation B) (Strength) Glute bridges (Strength) V-Hold (It's like an L-Sit with a V-shape instead) (To strengthen my hip flexors) Calf-stretch (https://docpods.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Calf-Stretch-Step-WEB-800x800.jpg) Lunge quad stretch (https://www.besthealthmag.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/KneelingQuadStretch2.jpg) Couch stretch (https://www.active.com/Assets/couch+stretch.jpg) Half-pigeon stretch [link] [comments]

| Posted: 14 Aug 2020 05:43 AM PDT Hi r/yoga, I am fairly new to yoga but have really enjoyed the decision to jump into it! For my first mat I bought a Gaiam and find that my pants stick to it. If going in to child's pose let's say, I cannot move my legs around the mat to get comfortable. Wherever they are there is no easy adjustment. Would a different style/material help with this or is it just something I need to learn to overcome? I find my hands slip at times in certain positions but this is less frustrating. | Starting to try out yoga, and I have a question Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:41 PM PDT I hurt my wrist in a ski accident years ago, and I can't put it flat on the ground and put weight on it. Will I still be able to continue with yoga with this problem? [link] [comments] |
