    Ashtanga yoga: headaches and dizziness

    headaches and dizziness

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 12:26 PM PDT

Hello everyone! I started Ashtanga yoga for 1-2 months. I was doing only sun salutations before, and now I've begun primary series. I have a slight headache and feel a lot dizzy every time and feel that I'm gonna faint. Does anybody know why I feel like this? Has anybody experienced it? Could it be because of hyperventilation? I have breathing problems since the day I was born, and It's the first time I breathe correctly. Could my body not be used to good oxygen flow?

Am I overdoing it with my complementary exercises?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 04:54 AM PDT

I have been practicing Ashtanga primary series for quite a while and struggled with many poses. To overcome those struggles, I started doing complementary exercises. I have been wondering lately if those exercises could be skipped, considering how they might overlap with what Ashtanga Yoga provides me already. I would be helpful if someone with some insight about this could lend me a hand.

    Thank you in before hand!

My complementary exercises, that I do almost every day before my main practice, are:

Chaturanga push ups (Strength + Form)

    Pull ups (Strength)

Squats (Like the one in Sun Salutation B) (Strength)

    Glute bridges (Strength)

V-Hold (It's like an L-Sit with a V-shape instead) (To strengthen my hip flexors)

    Calf-stretch (https://docpods.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Calf-Stretch-Step-WEB-800x800.jpg)

    Lunge quad stretch (https://www.besthealthmag.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/KneelingQuadStretch2.jpg)

    Couch stretch (https://www.active.com/Assets/couch+stretch.jpg)

    Half-pigeon stretch

    Issues w my knees

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 07:49 AM PDT

    Hola ashtangis!

I've been making some real strides in my asana practice lately, but my right knee is feeling kind of touchy / fragile. I try not to push it in lotus, and usually feel more tenderness in my ankle than knee when I'm in it. I can't jump back yet, so I recently noticed that in the process of moving back sometimes I put my weight in my knee. Maybe it's this?

Does anyone practice with a knee brace on?

Any common mistakes i might be doing that could be leading to this?

I know knee injuries are common in ashtanga so I'm trying to avoid any issues down the line.
