What is a 30 day challenge on a level between 30 days with Adriene (2015) and Yoga with Tim?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 09:00 AM PST

I will finish 30 days of Yoga with Adriene in 3 days and I'm looking for something a little more advanced. I tried Yoga with Tim and had to give up five minutes into the video, a long plank and then just lift your knee into your chest... No. Not there yet. :(

    Any advice appreciated, thank you!

I did yoga in a Halloween onesie today, and it made my session that much better

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:01 PM PST

I was following a video and in the middle of cat cow I remembered I had a shark fin on my back! I had bought a shark pajama onesie back in October, and it's been my favorite lounge-wear. I was feeling too lazy to change out of it, and thus created my favorite yoga moment yet.

I laughed a little to myself, and ironically the theme of the video was Self Love. I then began to laugh to myself again, thinking of myself as this magical sea prowess of love and awesomeness.

I AM SHARK WOMAN SEE ME DOWNWARD DOG!!

Anyway, I love yoga, can you tell I'm feeling happier and lighter?

Camel pose is so uncomfortable for me?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:23 PM PST

I know my upper body tends to be tight so I've started doing puppy pose. I also work on lizard pose to loosen up my hip flexors. But honestly back bends in any way make my heart race and make me lightheaded. They're just so uncomfortable. I modify it by doing one hand at a time and getting up on the balls of my feet rather than having the tops flat on the ground.

Does anyone else experience this/can anyone shed some light on why they're so difficult for me other than flexibility??

Help! How to keep students coming back to Zoom classes

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 08:05 AM PST

I'm a teacher (and agency owner), and have experienced a sharp increase in the number of corporate customers we're getting, but after booking an initial 3-5 sessions, most of them do not renew due to attendance levels dropping. We take feedback from the students after the first session and tailor subsequent ones using that data, and the initial feedback is really positive – students report feeling better, feeling more relaxed, not realising how tight they were before, etc. I'm really struggling though with getting people to come back week after week, which was not so much an issue when classes were IRL in people's offices.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how we could encourage students to keep up their practice in lockdown? Is there anything a teacher can do to make it easier for students, and motivate them? I'd really appreciate any advice or ideas!

Certification (please read/assist - coach looking to get certified)

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:07 PM PST

Hi, there!! I am so happy to be joining this thread and I am so sorry if questions like this aren't allowed or this is in the wrong place.

But, I am a strength and conditioning coach and have been working in the fitness industry coaching teams, group fitness, and 1-1s for about four years now. And, I have made the decision to wanting to get certified in yoga honestly as a personal choice and in hopes to be able to conduct classes on my own.

I currently work for a gym that's mostly high school and college athletes and would love a cert. or any guidance/wisdom coaching athletes with yoga specifically? The ones I've found seem great but a little pricey which is fine and understandable but I am looking for something reasonably priced to start and eventually would like to splurge on one. Wish I could afford and support!

But, mostly looking just got a certification that is a good all around one that I could teach classes and have a good understanding of yoga. I have been practicing on my own for a few years but would just like something on paper more or less and of course some good education!

Is there online you'd recommend? I work another job on top of the gym one (for a park) -7 days a week and wouldn't be able to really commit to a lot of time going to a studio at least right now. And, with Covid where I am (Chicago) it is a bit questionable... so yeah. Any online yoga certifications out there?? From searching the past few months I really am skeptical so that has led me to reddit! Sincere apologies for the rant but thank you in advanced to anyone who read and can support!

TIPPS: Yoga Teacher trying to grow her own brand

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 11:48 AM PST

Hey beautiful community, I am a certified yoga teacher since 2 months. I have been practicing yoga since almost 4 years. At the beginning - until my YTT- it was my fitness. Going from posture A to B and trying to reach a new goal ... it was about performance and not spirituality and finding inner calm. I have learn a lot during my YTT about Ayurvedic and benefits of Yoga. I am so greatful about this experience and would encourage every single human on earth to find some time to do this, to take time for yourself and challenged you with your inner self .

Now, I am SO tired to see all this post on IG about how to go into handstand, trying to do scorpion. I would give you a professional advice, don't try scorpion ... You will heart your lower back. This is not called yoga but aesthetic posture... I don't know how should I self branded myself and how I should make people aware that YOGA is not your FITNESS it is a LONG LIFESTYLE. Individual learning deep knowledge about this disciple would be more modest, be more aware about their thoughts, body and feel in general more. Awesome isn't ?

Do you have any tipps out there how to disrupt yoga from this aesthetic fitness art disciple to a spiritual and holistic and awareness based lifestyle?

Fearful of restarting practice following back injury

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 03:14 PM PST

In April I managed to herniate my L5 disc with an extrusion and nerve impingement. I also have lesser herniations up my lumbar spine and probably my t-spine, but that didn't get an MRI so I can only guess. I was in excruciating pain in my lower back as well as sciatic pain in the left leg. Before I was able to get a diagnosis, I started yoga to try to help. Daily practice made me feel very good but I also think I seriously aggravated the injury so I had to stop. I'm currently on month three of a treatment plan that includes spinal decompression, trigger point injection, physical therapy, and chiropractic and doing much, much better. I can actually walk and do my exercises now and the sciatica is minimal. I would like to start a yoga routine again, but I don't want to reinjure myself. For reference, cat-cow used to feel great and now it feels like there's a rod in my back when I do it so I take it very carefully (it's part of my physical therapy exercises). Is a Yoga with Adrienne 30 day challenge gentle enough to get me started? There is a studio near my work I plan to join after COVID and another studio not too far where I am acquainted with one of the teachers, but I'd like to get started with videos at home for multiple reasons. Thank you!

I wrote about chronic back pain a few days ago, spoke about it over Skype, and the internet spies sent me a link for yoga—something I never thought about doing. Does anyone know if yoga would actually help with limiting (nearly) lifelong pain?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:33 PM PST

Here's the link the Firefox people recommended:

    https://getpocket.com/explore/item/9-stretches-to-relieve-lower-back-pain?utm_source=pocket-newtab

I did several reps of a few of them, but the only thing I got out of it was sore legs... but my back didn't hurt while I was doing them so I guess that's a plus, right?

    Patanjali’s concept of Consciousness

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 05:25 AM PST

In the yoga sutras, I'm confused about Patanjalis concept of consciousness and how pure awareness can only be experienced through consciousness. As if consciousness is subjective.

Whereas in many other philosophy's, consciousness is objective or the highest reality. Even God. It's the underlying reality of all things. Not something that we have or have not... but rather something that we tap into through cleansing of the ego.

This makes me feel as though he's using consciousness in place of perception.

Can anyone help me understand this better?

    Yoga for the Tireless.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:06 AM PST

I have no questions for this world. I just wonder. But my body is like a boy.

I do not fear. I do not worry. But my body is jumping.

I feel like I am new. I feel free.

But now I am bored every minute. I feel every second.

It's difficult. Like every sound from people tries. Like every look from people wants.

Have you ever had acroyoga mistaken for a public performance?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 10:03 PM PST

Was recently practicing with a friend in the park, and a few people (funny enough) gathered around to watch (and some even stayed for a few minutes too). Has this ever happened to anyone else? One person even offered to give a tip when we broke for water
