Burning Left back pain? Tight muscles?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 02:46 AM PST

So I've been sitting for pretty much a lot of my life video gaming, I'm 23 now and every now and then I get this dull burning/ache in my lower left back at this region only. https://gyazo.com/26e637d2b21fea1164397b4471f554b0

I also get sciatica pain in my left butt cheek and a tight left calf sensation every now and then, but stretching & rolling it on a ball usually helps. I've also rolled my hip flexors & quads and that usually hurts like hell but feels really good after.

It seems like it's only the left side of my body suffering which makes me think it could be a glute muscle imbalance or uneven hips? Or could this just be extremely tight/weak muscles (glutes, abs, hip flexors, hamstrings etc.) or even a bulging disc?

Has anyone else has this pain? (mine's only on the left side near Glute Medius) I'm almost certain it's from sitting too much but if anyone else has info i'd really appreciate it.

    Breathing in backbends

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 10:26 PM PST

Looking for some advice, please. I am working on my backbends through multiple stretches. I typically incorporate diaphragmatic breathing into all my stretch routines, but I notice I have a hard time with not only diaphragmatic breathing but normal breathing when holding backbends stretches, particularly those that focus on thoracic stretching (the least flexible part of my back). I find I start taking shallow, almost pointless breaths. The shortness of breath causes me to back off to a point where I don't feel like I'm stretching. Backbend pros, is this normal and I just need to get used to it, or am I doing something incorrectly that I need to fix? If so, any advice to help my progress? Thanks!

Does the becoming a supple leopard style of maintenance help with flexibility or just mobility?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 12:45 PM PST

What I mean is would that type of mobility training just improve my ability to move or will it also improve my range of flexibility. For example, will it help me achieve a full split?

    Warm up and splits questions

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:33 PM PST

Aloha all, new to this thread so I'm sorry if this is a question that is asked a lot but what have you all found to be the most effective warm up for stretching? I want to stretch once or twice a day, but have a hard time getting warm enough for it to be convenient or possible without doing an entire workout routine. And second question, I am currently about two inches from getting my side splits (three on the other side) but I find that my problem isn't necessarily my hamstrings, but it is actually the nerves (piriformis I think) on the middle back of my knee that hurts afterwards like a string that has been pulled too tight. I might be wrong on the nerve part but does anyone know how to get your splits when you're having weird back-of-knee pain/restriction like that? Any general tips for flexibility would be greatly appreciated too if you have some, I am a beginner pole dancer for reference. Thank you all so much in advance, happy to be here :)
