    Comparing fitness

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 07:02 PM PST

the lack of immediate results makes it take grit to stick it out once the novelty wears off. I try to do some workouts a few days a week, even that isn't much or high intensity and it can feel like a chore. I really admire those who get up and do that every day. A lot of them claim it's something fun to look forward to, and the results are like an achievement. Not that I want to be a bodybuilder or anything aha.

i think it's good for your heart to keep doing exercises, even if it feels like a chore. Yeah I knew a guy who used to jog a lot and was in great shape we went to law school together aha

looking after your fitness is nothing to compare yourself to others about. If I see a fit body I feel glad for that person that they're keeping in shape, not that they're a step down from the macho Arnold Schwarzenegger bod aha

Struggling pretty hard to achieve liftoff with side crow, but I can do crow pose consistently

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 11:00 AM PST

I'm fairly new to yoga; been practicing for just over 5 months now, and it's been amazing for my overall health, fitness, and wellbeing!

I can actually get into regular crow pose pretty easily at this point and hold it for a decent amount of time, a few deep breaths consistently, so I'm pretty sure the upper body strength and balance are there. But I can't for the life of me get my feet off the ground in side crow. A lot of people say that side crow should be easier, but I'm finding it very difficult.

Could this be an issue with core strength, or lower body strength, or not enough twist/proper arm placement? I'm not really sure what's going on, but whenever I start to lift off the ground my feet just want to fall right back to the floor, and my arms and shoulders never seem to feel comfortable when I twist down into the pose

EDIT: Thanks everyone!! All your comments here have been incredibly helpful, and I was finally able to get into the pose and hold it for a full breath!

bulge in right back when in plank pose -- keep going?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 08:00 PM PST

Just curious if anyone knows about this -- My question is if you are kinda injured, is the plank going to still address that core strengthening? Is there anything I can do to keep the back from doing too much work?

The details -- my hips are misaligned and I have a torn hamstring. I'm trying to do lots of planks and limited other yoga to strengthen the core. So... my sister just pointed out that the right column of my back bulges (right through my tshirt!). The spinal erector muscles. It's been that way forever. It's painful too, hip instability has made things tight as heck. So it's like yeah is that just how plank is going to be in that situation? I'm prescribed them, I'm allowed to do them. Thanks if anyone knows this in advance. :)

    Failing a yoga teacher training?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 03:39 PM PST

Has anyone here not 'passed', or know someone that has not 'passed' a yoga teacher training? If so, why did they not let you pass?

Background incase you're curious - last year I found myself doing 2 intense yoga teacher trainings within the space of 3 months. I'd never done yoga and my body wasn't in the best condition (a kind of 'how the ... Did I end up here?) Despite this I seemed to have 'passed' and am now qualified to teach yoga (go & switch on some lights if you know what I mean) so do they just pass anyone and everyone? Is it just a money making machine? Why don't we share the knowledge for free? I'm not a yoga teacher btw despite these shiny qualifications I paid for, just a girl working through karma. Peace.

Any suggestions for distributing weight over the palm instead of the wrist?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:06 PM PST

    Hi,

I'm a total beginner at yoga. Have been on and off for multiple times, but this time I really want to stick to it.

One of the problems I always face is whenever I'm doing any pose with hands on the ground all the weight is pointed on my wrists and my fingers are mostly up in air. Sometimes I even start having wrist pain. Is there any exercise or any tip I should keep in mind that will help me distribute the weight all over my palm?

All tips and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

    Namaste 🙏

    YOGA BUM!? injury?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 01:05 PM PST

    Hi 🙂

I've been doing yoga for a while now (8 months) to treat a hip issue. It's been doing me wonders! However, I know have this nagging burning pain in just under my left glute and from what I've read it's called 'yoga bum' or 'proximal hamstring tendinopathy'

Its been creeping up once or twice in the past and nothing severe but this feel different.

I was wonder has anyone had this? How did you treat it? How long??

Any advice would be great 😁

    My left hamstring is "stuck"

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 03:44 PM PST

    Hello,

I have noticed that my left hamstring is significantly tighter than my right. I can almost get humanasana, but I notice that in many poses, I am just more limber when my right side is leading. No matter what I do, the hamstring just doesn't seem to loosen. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to help it? Also curious to know if there is some emotional blockage related to the left hamstring.

    Wild thing question

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:51 AM PST

So I am unsure about something while holding the wild thing pose. Basically how to distribute the weight between the two legs and the standing arm.

Let's say I start by side-planking on the left, and transition into wild thing, bending my right leg behind my left. I tend to put a lot of weight onto the bent right leg, more than on the extended left leg and the left arm. I'm wondering if I'm cheating the pose.

So my question is : what should the weight distribution be between the left arm, left leg and right leg? Should there be ANY weight on the right leg? Or should I work toward supporting my body mostly through the left arm/leg in this pose?

    Thank you! :)

    Getting back into yoga

I have done a poor job of taking care of myself lately and really wanna get back into yoga. I usually use Yoga with Adrienne but I'd like to challenge myself with others' approaches to yoga to stimulate and motivate myself to try something new.

    Thanks in advance!

    Floor bow injury...

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 10:43 AM PST

Hi! Does anyone know what kind of lower back injury I may have gotten?? Probably about a year ago I had some pretty bad back pain after a floor bow that I must've done wrong. I haven't participated in floor bow since! I took some time off and it mostly went away but the same pain will flair up every once in a while and I believe its from this injury. It is somewhat back and lasting again, so I plan on seeing a doctor after the first of the year.

Anyone else experience this or know what type of injury this might be?

What are some good flows for coming out of a bought of depression?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:15 AM PST

I've had some much going on this past month and on top of my season depression I got hit hard with all the feels. It's been a couple of weeks since I've actually did a good flow but I'm ready to come back into myself and rise out of this sadness. What is your go to practice for this kind of situation? I like doing yoga off YouTube so links would also be appreciated. Or any other suggestions.
