What led you to really implementing yoga into your daily life? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 07:39 PM PST Hi all, i'm a new-ish reddit user and have thoroughly enjoyed and been inspired by all of the posts of this page. It led me to think, for those who do daily yoga practices/are passionate about their practice, what/how did you really get into it? I've always been interested in yoga, and have taken quite a few classes but i've never really been able to implement it and keep it up. I wonder if it was your discipline, a sudden change one day during your practice, etc. Thank you!!! and i love you all <3 [link] [comments]
What’s the point of doing a split? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 06:53 PM PST I love a good challenge. But it's so hard for me to do the split, like it feels unnatural to my body, unlike other challenges which I just need to work towards and my body will naturally get there. Every time I stretch towards the split I can't walk properly afterwards lol. So should i keep trying? Or is it just not for me? [link] [comments]
Yoga for vaginismus and vulvodynia? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 09:16 AM PST Has anyone here found relief from vaginismus and/or vulvodynia through yoga? For those who don't know, vaginismus is a condition involving a muscle spasm in the pelvic floor during sex, while vulvodynia is chronic pain in and around the vaginal area, attributed to either nerves or muscular problems. From what I understand, mine is entirely caused by muscular problems as my pelvic floor is almost never relaxed, which results in a lot of pain for me. I've read several articles on the subject and there seems to be a lot of people saying either, "Oh yes, yoga helped me tremendously, the specific yoga poses are in insert x book I can't afford to buy right now" or alternatively, "Yes, but some yoga poses can make it worse", with absolutely no clarification as to which yoga poses to avoid lol. My questions are as follows: - Have any of you been able to relax your pelvic floor muscles through yoga poses? If so, which ones? - Which yoga poses should I avoid? The only website I've found describing yoga poses for pelvic floor relaxation is this one, which is great but it only features a couple poses. If anyone has any information on this subject, I would greatly appreciate hearing it. [link] [comments]
A strong class from one of my favourite yoga teachers (Youtube) Posted: 18 Feb 2021 10:51 AM PST I've enrolled in his classes for the last 5 years and I just had to share it with you. I think it's important having a strong practice without turning it into a gym class. He doesn't have many of these videos online and I value his classes a lot. So, if you want to check it out: (This is not a beginner class! If you are just starting out, you can get injured) [link] [comments]
What are some poses you used to hate, but have come to love? Vice versa? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 10:50 AM PST So, I got to thinking about this lately because it's almost my 1 year anniversary of starting my practice (woohoo!). A lot has changed for me since then. I thought it'd be fun to start a conversation about the evolution of our practices. Specifically, how you felt about certain poses when you began - both physically and mentally - and how you feel about them now. What has changed? For me, I haaaated half pigeon when I first started. Groaned whenever it would come up in a sequence. I couldn't get my hip to the ground, which I found frustrating, and just found it very uncomfortable. Now, I'm finally in a place where it feels good. I actually look forward to it; something I never thought could happen :D [link] [comments]
Suddenly lost a lot of flexibility in my right hamstring Posted: 18 Feb 2021 03:33 PM PST Today while doing my daily stretches I noticed that I couldn't do a front straddle split on my right leg as well as i usually do. I would say I usually get to about 90% of the full split (my left leg is my better leg) but this time I could barely stay in position and it was more painful than usual. My hamstring felt very tight while stretching, and I have no idea why, as it seemingly happened overnight. I haven't changed my workout routine nor have I been overstretching my muscles. I don't know what's wrong with it. Any advice would be highly appreciated. [link] [comments]
New to yoga. I have a simple plan. I am wondering if there is anything else I should do? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 12:49 PM PST Hi! So as the title says I am new and I have a small idea of that I am going to do to get started. I am thinking of starting really slow and trying to completely master the Surya Namaskar sequence fot as long at that takes. Then I want to progress to other Asanas and ? not sure what else or what kind? At this point I don't know what kind of yoga I want to progress into. I just would love to have a really firm base and understanding, along with control and knowledge of the basics. I am wondering if any of you could give me some direction of what to work on after? Is there anything else I should add to my current plan? Also, how many times should I be doing the surya namaskar sequence each day? Thanks everyone. I am really glad to be starting out and to have all of your wisdom and guidance. [link] [comments]
Yogus, may I have your eyes for a second. Posted: 18 Feb 2021 06:44 PM PST Hello everyone , I love yoga when I get motivated to do it , I'm the best or really that consistent, but when I do it I try do so properly. I've deffo noticed improvements from when I've started and I also have nerve damage and arthritis so it does wonders before bed ! I have one BIG problem and that is my hips ... even coming to sit cross legged I'm in pain after a minute or so even when I lie on my back to hug my knees I can barely have them touch and I can t keep my hips from pulling up .. I've had issues with it in daily life for a while (it's where my arthritis is situated ). Can anyone give me some good recommendations, advice anything to try keep me going and ease some of the tightness and pain. All advice welcome and I hope you all have a nice day/night [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Feb 2021 06:36 PM PST Im just curious, if yoga canprevent the degredation of the spongy discs in your spine, then the spongy discs in your knees should be responsive to the practice as well? I spent a lot of time doing parkour and basically, I never did it 100% right. I have some achy knees and need ot prevent further degeneration. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
What are some of your favorite core stretches? (Looking to avoid diastasis recti) Posted: 18 Feb 2021 06:29 PM PST Hi! I've been doing fitness yoga for over 10 years (mainly p90x and YouTube videos). I'm about a year postpartum and barely had any diastasis recti (separation of the ab muscles down the middle), 1 finger when I was a few weeks postpartum. I know a lot of this comes down to genetics, but I'm the only woman in my family that doesn't have "mommy tummy". I did diastasis recti workouts to strengthen my core afterwards, but I honestly think that 10 years of upward dog and such gave my abs a bit more room for baby while I was pregnant. A flexible core rather than a rock-hard core (better to combine the two) may have been what saved me. We're looking to conceive baby #2 someday soon, so I really want to make my core more flexible and strong. Do any of you have any favorite core mobility stretches (not just front, but twists as well) or videos to recommend? Thank you so much! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Feb 2021 04:19 PM PST I live in leggings. I havent own jeans in live 5+ years and I'm always on the hunt for new leggings. What are some of your favourite brands and styles! I'm currently in love with the way Alo goddess leggings look but havent pulled the trigger on buying them! [link] [comments]
| Body aches when practicing regularly Posted: 18 Feb 2021 09:32 AM PST Hi all. Not sure if this question is going to make sense, but i've noticed when i get in the habit of practicing yoga and stretching regularly, the next days i will feel achey and like i desperately NEED to stretch/do the same type of yoga to relieve the aches. I notice when i stop practicing for a while the aches go away and i feel perfectly fine and like i don't need to stretch at all. Anyone else experience this or know why this is? It's pretty frustrating when everyone is always going on about how exercise and stretching is meant to make you feel so good vs when you're not moving much, but i'm having the opposite experience. | Posted: 18 Feb 2021 03:03 PM PST I'm reading amazon reviews and there's always talk of a smell associated with the good ones and the thicker ones seem to peel apart after some use. Could use some guidance? I was originally going to go with a 3mm for ease of transport but would like a second opinion [link] [comments] |
[Help] Recommendation for a guided video series Posted: 18 Feb 2021 08:38 AM PST Looking for a video playlist that features timed poses with chill music, similar to Chloe Ting's exercise videos. Not looking for a ton of explanation; more like a video companion. If anyone has anyone they really appreciate and would recommend, please let me know. Also, I am looking for some stretch playlists for flexibility of the same format. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Struggling to get back to regular practice with a baby, any advice? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 02:02 PM PST Between a c-section, reinjury, and a pandemic, I've had trouble re-establishing anything like regular practice. Honestly, it's mostly been quick stretches here and there to keep my back/neck from hurting. A lot of the trouble is lack of any outside childcare; I'm primary caregiving most of the day, and cooking or cleaning when my husband's home. Sometimes I can squeeze in a half hour or more on the weekends, but it's rare. My anxious body is craving the movement and focus, but it's hard to go inward when a little person is trying to nurse you in plank or poking your eye during savasana... [link] [comments]
| sides pinching when i stretch? Posted: 18 Feb 2021 12:02 PM PST whenever i do moves like sitting in a straddle and reaching for foot, the skin on my stomach will fold and pinch? this also happens whenever i practice my bow and arrow. like even if i'm not feeling a stretch my rolls get in the way and hurt so i can't go any farther. i'm not overweight in any way, i'm relatively thin. anyone else experience this? | Headstands (tips for a beginner) Posted: 18 Feb 2021 06:41 AM PST Hi guys. Im really scared of breaking my neck on a headstand. Am i crazy? Do you guys have any tips or things to share on how you guys started with this pose? 🙏🏽 [link] [comments] |
Opinions on warming up and chatting during the practice Posted: 18 Feb 2021 03:40 AM PST Hi, I wanted to gather some opinions on warm up and chatting during the practice , do you guys think it's necessary to start with a child's pose, table top with some balancing cross arm leg movements, maybe some stretches laying down? I personally prefer starting with mountain pose and simplest sun salutations, as this warms me up already and I feel super bored with the typical warmups. As for the chatting part, I know this is quite a personal choice, but I feel so annoyed when the instructor starts talking about mindfulness, how beautiful life is; this really distracts me and gives me headaches, especially when I'm on my mat just to relax after a stressful day. How do you feel about this? Often times I had to close the video on YouTube because the person was talking so much and switch to downdog app. How does it affect you? [link] [comments]
New to yoga, I want to know how many salutations there are. Posted: 18 Feb 2021 03:31 AM PST I decided to practice yoga, so I choose to do sun salutation first. However, I discovered that there are Moon and earth salutations, too. I wonder how many salutations there are in yoga.I want to learn all of them. Please tell me, thanks! [link] [comments]
