Does anyone prefer to practice with their eyes closed? Posted: 20 Feb 2021 03:22 PM PST Today I tried to do most of my practice with my eyes closed, aside from checking my alignment and it was a completely different experience for me. I felt like I was much more able to tune into my body this time. I think I'll do this from now on. Anyone else do the same? [link] [comments]

Weight training for strengthening my yoga pracice Posted: 20 Feb 2021 12:50 PM PST Hi everyone. Curious if there is anyone who would reccomend any specific exercises with weights to strengthen my yoga practice? I'm open to it all. I have been working on my back and specifically lats because I know in yoga we don't have alot of movement that requires pulling. Is there anything else? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 11:44 AM PST I've done BJJ for 10 years now. The first 6 years were obsessive and the last 4 (due to career change) I've had to lay-off my everyday hobby. I've slowly but surely became miserable. This last week I tried yoga on the peloton app while I wait for my bike. I've done it every single day for an hour a day. It does EVERYTHING Jiu Jitsu does for me. I lost 10 pounds this week. I've cried every night after releasing all the stress that I worked out of my body. I feel spectacular. I finally understand why Jocko calls BJJ involuntary yoga. I'm just here to express my gratitude. I'm grateful I can practice movement as much as I want. I'm happy again. I enjoy life again. I want to tell someone but I don't wanna be hazed by people on my regular social media. Thank you for your time. [link] [comments]

Yoga practice with breast implants Posted: 20 Feb 2021 09:47 AM PST Hi all, I am a 27 female and avid gym go-er. 6 days a week and have primarily focused on HIIT and weight lifting so I would consider myself very in shape. I am the last to hop on the yoga train compared to my friends. I am absolutely in love with the way it helps me in other areas of the gym and is just a really great addition to my routine. Although I'm a beginner I can see myself advancing into yoga practice. I do however have implants that require me to modify some poses that require a fair amount of chest work. I stick to knees, chest, chin instead of chaturanga. Although I desperately wish I could work on it (I love the challenge which is why I love fitness so much in general) but prefer not to risk moving my implants laterally. Any yogis out there with breast implants and particularly under the muscle? Any suggestions on how you work about chest muscles as much as you can? Obviously eliminating all chest work is impossible, but I'm hoping to hear some insight on some modifications. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 06:32 PM PST hello beautiful people of yogic land, hope you're all at peace and love that your beautiful souls deserve. As an avid practitioner of meditation and yoga, I feel like spirituality is undoubted, the best thing that has happened to me. The spiritual experiences I gained from meditating (visuals, sounds) do not intimidate me, I want to enhance my spiritual experience and I have recently been doing research on Kundalini. I know there's a ton of resources out there on this, but is there anyone that can clarify to me if practicing kundalini yoga on youtube/online videos is safe? I have done small snippets of it (10min videos) and I truly feel energize and at peace after. I also find it ridiculously easy to meditate afterward as my mind is like a clean slate. Also, any other tips on enhancing my spiritual gains are highly appreciated. Hope you all have a wonderful day! [link] [comments]
Pyramid pose and other hamstrings stuff Posted: 20 Feb 2021 02:26 PM PST Hello guys! I've been doing yoga since march 2020 and I'm loving it. Now that I'm able to do a lot more, I start to have a lot of doubts. The major one is about pyramid pose: what's more important? To keep the belly and the leg connected or to keep the leg straight? And regarding everything related to hamstrings when I need to reach my feet, is it more important to connect the belly and the legs or to keep the legs straight? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 09:27 AM PST Hey all! I've been practicing consistently for the past four months or so. During which I've also started running, and have lost ~40lbs all together. Yoga has been awesome in this transition! But I really want to get stronger to be able to do some of the crazy body strength things I see some yoga people doing. Anyone have recommendations about how to work towards that point? Is it simply just doing more challenging sessions more regularly? FYI I'm only doing at home yoga at this point following yoga videos. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Feb 2021 12:37 PM PST Hey! I started practicing the Brahmari breathing practice and the Kapalabhati. They feel very good and I am exited to start doing them every day before a ten minutes meditation. My question is (maybe kind of dumb): Is it okay to do both of these practices at the same time, one followed by the other? Or is there any reason why I should separate them or even have to choose one over the other? I mean, do they compliment each other or is it better to choose one? I'm very new to all of this so maybe there is a way to do things. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 03:18 PM PST I consider myself to be an active person. I enjoy lifting weights and doing cardio. But yoga is something else. I can't believe, I waited so long to pull the trigger.. I definitely want to dive deeper into yoga and make it a part of my daily ritual. I'm looking for a community of yogis to show me the ways, if it's not too much to ask for. Thank you, Alex [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 11:30 AM PST I have had my husband practice certain meditative/restorative postures and seen him change, calm down and have clarity, but he doesn't stick with it. I see him get taken over my the stress of his job, and his mind trying to make sense of it all. I get sad because I feel like he is missing all the sweetness of life. I'm not sure what to do. It greatly affects me because it makes me very sad. I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone else experienced this with their partner/SO? What has helped, them and yourself? [link] [comments]
How long should the Bandha be held daily? Posted: 20 Feb 2021 02:49 PM PST So, I read the yoga pradapika, and it says, of the bandha that is an stomach vacuum, it needs to be done for 6 months for it's full effect. However it doesnt specify the daily time if must be done at a strech. ! Is 3 hours the correct time? a friend from a taoist discord said 3 hours, daily, for the 6 months, but i couldnt confirm it so far. [link] [comments]
| Mobility drills and movement library resources Posted: 20 Feb 2021 10:08 AM PST Hello! I am looking to work mobility drills into a yoga practice from different positions. For example torso rotations from a mountain pose or thorasic rotations from a tabletop position. It is not necessarily purely for yoga, but I'm looking for a database of different types of movements from different positions. (I'm sure there are tons of movements that I am not even thinking of to do!) Obviously free would be great, but if there are good resources that are paid they'd be worthwhile. Thanks so much! | Posted: 20 Feb 2021 08:21 AM PST Hello, I started taking vinyasa classes in a heated room and am doing a lot of sweating during class. I'm a bit self-conscious about it. The room is heated so it's not unheard of to sweat, but after doing some digging on the web I found this article which argues that we should not want to sweat and that we are depleting our life force when we sweat. https://medium.com/@hathayogashala/sweating-in-yoga-37990bef49c6 I've sweat a lot since I was a kid and thought sweating was good so I would make efforts to sweat whenever I worked out. I looked around the room and I see sweat on people so I don't feel too weird that I sweat a lot, but my last class I was slipping around on my mat because of the wetness so it affected my practice. I suppose dealing with the slipperiness was part of my practice, but it got me wondering which led me to that article. Aside from that article, most search results pull up information pertaining to the benefits of sweat and why it's good for you. What do you all think of sweat? Do you think it's normal or unusual to sweat a lot in class? [link] [comments] |
Tips for those with hyperextending joints (elbows in particular)? Posted: 20 Feb 2021 02:42 AM PST I am just getting back into yoga after a couple years away from the practice. I am very aware that I am building strength again that I haven't had in awhile. I don't remember my joints being so upset with me though (particularly elbows). In previous classes I have had teachers comment on the hypertension of my elbows. I have been practicing yoga at home so am I not able to ask for tips or modifications. Any suggestions and thoughts are appreciated. 😊 [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 01:10 AM PST Been doing yoga a lot more lately. I've been stretching my Psoas lately after neglecting it for most of my life, and also neglecting it when I stretch. I didn't realize how much damn tension and trauma I carry in my Psoas muscle. Feels very emotional. Gonna start committing to an of yoga hour a day. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2021 07:44 AM PST Hi everyone! I'm looking into purchasing a home spin bike that also offers yoga and strength training classes. There are so many choices! Peloton is obviously very popular but pricey. Does anyone have a preference or is there anything to look out for? [link] [comments]
